Went to my first T.O.P.S meeting last night. It was a great bunch of ladies. Very inspiring. There is lots of positive recognition for losing weight. There are door prizes, prizes for losing the most that week, month, etc. Very cool. I'll go back, especially since I like prizes :-)
I found a lovely Farmer's Market only a $10 bus ride away and bought two lovely cauliflowers, super fresh, was looking forward to trying out two recipes. Only I left the bag on the floor last night when I went to the meeting....and my Labrador, Keeva, ATE ONE ENTIRE CAULIFLOWER, stem, leaves and all. I hadn't noticed and the sounds her stomach was making this morning WOKE ME UP! So I started puzzling and puzzling, what could she have eaten? My socks are under lock and key, there aren't any other temptations around....hmm. Then I went to deal with the cauliflowers and there was only one cauliflower in the bag. I thought I had lost my mind and had really only bought one, then it slowly dawned on me, and I noticed the nibbled leaves, OH YA, she ate the whole freakin' thing. Do I have the only vegetable loving Labrador? Talk about people ! sabotaging my diet plans, sheesh. LOL. I can't be mad at her, I know she loves tomatoes, romaine, just about everything but celery (yuck) so I should have known. I'm just glad she left me one and didn't decide to eat the 3 pie pumpkins that were there too, lol. She will be spending a lot of time outdoors until I see how this affects her.

My dog has a fetish for asparagus...I have to keep him out of my garden or he will eat every stalk...he steals it off the counter....he loves cauliflower too!

Hi Cheryl! So I'm not the only one with a vegetable-stealing beast. What kind of dog do you have? Keeva usually will try to steal tomatoes, cauliflower is a new one for her. LOL. I'll be sure to keep asparagus out of reach.

tomatos are toxic to dogs.

Just read an article about substituting cauliflower for potatoes - maybe your dog did too.

Funny! Dogs can be vegetarian. Cats can't though that's why I always make sure to invite plenty of mice and snakes in to my home when the weather turns cold.

my little one doesn't notice when I swap mashed cauliflower with sautéed onions for mashed potatoes!! It's an easy switch

ChrisComedy, I wouldn't put it past that dog, lol. Thanks, LMS1230, I did my research on google and you are right, tomatoes in quantity can be toxic, I will cut her back. I already pulled out my tomato plants when I noticed she was eating them. No more tomatoes for her. Hey pwrestlephoto...I roasted the cauliflower in the oven with a little olive oil, balsamic vinegar and parmesan cheese. It was pretty good. If you find a good recipe, let me know!

If you like spicy, I make cauliflower buffalo wings instead of chicken wings.

Hmmm. I don't usually like very spicy, but buffalo cauliflower sounds interesting. I might try a mild version, if I can find a recipe. Thanks !

Oh so simple! http://theleancleaneatingmachine dot com/2014/02/02/cauliflower-buffalo-bites/ this is my favorite. For the sauce just use a milder hot sauce, or even bbq sauce.

OMG that is funny! Sorry - sounds like your dog is not feeling the greatest...but she likes cauliflower? Ha! My favorite recipe for cauliflower is to bake or boil it until it is very soft, then chop it up and process it into a thick puree. I season it with my favorite herbs, and it makes a killer substitute for mashed potatoes!

I have substituted cauliflower for rice. I steam the florets from fresh head of cauliflower. When it's tender but still a bit crisp, I take them out and mash with a potato masher. It goes right into rice pieces. Awesome to put sauces over like alfredo and chicken or spaghetti meat sauce. That is funny about your dog. (Onions aren't good for dogs either ... and I just heard the skins of chicken weren't good for them).
