nb girl's Journal, 21 September 2014

This week we've been trying very hard to support our friends/neighbours through a very bad time. He was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer, with a secondary tumour near his spinal chord. Unfortunately, after 5 days of having a real tough fight he finally lost his battle yesterday afternoon! Its always a shock, but our thoughts and priorities are now with his wife of course.

Life just got far too 'real' yesterday. This terrible time has served as a reminder to really try harder, and to focus on what is really important.

For the first time last evening I was on the hunt in the fridge and in the pantry for something nice to eat. But of course I couldn't find anything that would have touched the spot. I realised that I looked towards food to help the pain of raw emotions.

Next week is going to be tough. There's the 'Celebration' of our friends life, then at the end of the week my husband travels to the UK (we live in Spain) for his 9 monthly checkup after he had lymphoma 3 years ago. He won't be back for 6 days so I'm not looking forward to this. BTW my husband feels great.

But I am focused, I'm planning to have a few days fasting, and going on some long walks with our dog now that the sun isn't so strong.

Don't you think when life gets difficult, you've just got to get planning for success!

Sorry to hear about your neighbor/friend. Yes, she will need everyone's strength. You have to pray everyday and thank GOD for each day he gives us.

So sorry...that is hard to absorb. I know what you mean about looking for food to comfort yourself in times of extreme stress. But, you caught yourself, so that is a sign you are in a different place now. Before, you probably would have had the kitchen stocked with all the foods you were searching for! You are right, planning is very important. Be gentle with yourself this week.
