Kiki8123's Journal, 14 September 2014

Down .2 lbs. at first I thought weight loss may be looking like ( as I near my weight loss goal (175)) that it's slowing down a bit. However, the 175 original goal I set for myself is on the higher end of the scale for my age and height. The lower weight is 145. I can't remember the last time I was that weight - junior high? Maybe high school? 10 lbs from goal weight and I know I can go further. So, once I reach the 175, I'll probably take it week by week, pound by pound, to see how I feel and how my body looks to determine where I should be. Or, maybe my body will stop at a certain point. I just know that the stupid "charts" still consider me overweight so we will see of that actually changes when I reach the 175. I feel better than I have in a long time. Finally got into size 10 slacks. Pretty much skipped the 12s without even realizing it. However, still in the 12s for jeans. Go figure. Not really hung up on sizes as that's not a huge thing to me. But it is funny to see the differences of sizing now that I've lost weight. I still think I need to buy extra large tops, but then try them on and it just makes me look bigger! So did a large. Got a medium, and it fit perfectly! Whoo hoo! I remember a few months back telling Yolanda I was envious and couldn't wait to get into a medium like she did for her school shirt! I did it, Yo!

I've really been amping up the exercise and love to do it. I feel sluggish if I don't make it to the gym. In fact, kind of overdid it yesterday. Did. 1.5 hour class at the gym (combo class of stair stepper, kick boxing, butts and guts). Then, 2 hours later joined a Zumbathon for MS (2 hours straight). Today body is telling me to take a break, which I will happily do. However, I've noticed that when I take time off, I get a little anxious about not doing something. I think I need to listen to my body more. With my work schedule, I never know if I'm gonna make it to the gym. So, when I have the time off, I go. The last week I had time to go every day.

Hope everyone else is doing great! I need to read your journals. I had over 150 unread notifications!

Thanks, everyone! Chris, I hear ya! If We're subbing one "addiction" for another, this is a good one! I think it'll be easier to manage this one as our bodies will tell us when we are overdoing it. I don't think I'm doing too much normally as I spend 1 to 1.5 hours at the gummy normally and usually take a day off to rest. I also try to work different body parts. I say go for it!

I'm going to divide my strength training into upper and lower sessions so I'm sure they get a rest. I may have been overtraining by doing 45 minutes of work with ankle weights followed by a whole body workout with dumbbells the next day. I hope to add more cardio equipment as I go along so that I get a cross-training benefit.

That's awesome. I totally feel the same way about clothes. For some reason I still think I need an extra large and I really need a medium. Got to get over that!

Great job on the weight loss! It takes time, but you'll get there! I wanted to ask about the gym classes.... We're you nervous the first time you took a class? What was your first one? I go to the gym, but only use the machines. I'm pretty shy, so signing up for classes isn't very easy for me. I worry about tiring out too fast, or looking like an idiot! I know I should just suck it up and do it, but I'm such a chicken!

Hi jessberry, sorry for the late response. When I go into a new class at the gym, I simply stick to the back but in the middle so I'm still behind the instructor. I usually end up watching his or her feet first to get that down and then add arms, etc, later. Same thing when there's weights - I just don't grab any and do the class without them til I feel comfortable. If you can't see the instructor's feet, there's usually a few other regulars in the class you can follow. I've found that most people at the gym are kind and know you're there to better yourself. Try a little chit chat with the person next to you if you can. I sometimes crack a joke and warn them that I'll try to stay out of there way and not step on their toes. In Zumba class, if they've been going for awhile, they know how to shorten or widen their step and movement so that you're not running into one another. Most of the classes I go to always have new people trying it out. My suggestion is to try to challenge yourself to stick to the whole class and don't give up. It's easier the next time. If you don't like it, try another class. I'm not sure what my first class was - probably Zumba because i like to dance (my daughter is a dancer). It was hard to do some of the moves (and sometimes still is - my body doesn't always shake in the right places!) but I just learn to laugh at myself and sometimes alter the moves. Look around - a lot of people do the same. The other classes I've liked are kickboxing and a stair stepper class. I really hope you'll challenge yourself - you'll give yourself a boost of confidence you didn't know you had in you! Then, you'll start being the one that others watch. Good luck!
