BuffyBear's Journal, 01 September 2014

Back on track yesterday but only lost 1 of the 3 pounds gained on Friday. This is exactly why I've never purposely incorporated "cheat days" into my eating plan.

You know best what works for you, my friend! I have to agree for myself, for in the past when I've tried the cheat day approach, my cheats were too extensive to easily recover from. Enjoy the holiday! xoxox

Cheat days should not exceed maintenance calories, I went through the same thing while I was in vacation and could not really track the calorie intake...

Im of the mindset if you want something, plan for it and have it. Do some extra activity too! If I have an active vacation, I won't gain weight.

Whatever works for you. Cheat days are not in my plan either, if I do go over I adjust for a few days so my average over a week fits the plan. My "cheats" usually are not food but beer.

wholefoodnut - I like beer with pizza - not the best combination for my circumstances - LOL

beer, it goes with anything...LOL. They used to bring in pizza everyday for lunch during the stock market crash back in 2008 and 2009, we were working through lunches. I became so sick of pizza that it is rare that it even sounds good. I do want to try some different ones that are in this pizza book I bought for 25 cents. A slew of healthy sounding ones.

*sigh* I do miss a good beer. Alcohol used to be my "cheat" of choice. Sadly, the wheat, sulfites (in wine) and the alcohol just cause more inflammation for me than I want in my life. I was even attending grad school to become a winemaker, when I came to the conclusion I had to drop out of the program and give up pretty much all beer, wine and spirits if I had any chance to cure my auto-immune disease (which I did!). Now, my "cheats" are a splash of organic olive oil, or an extra handful of organic walnuts on my salads or an extra serving of carob supergreens "Chunks of Energy" after my long Sunday runs. I know those don't sound particularly "indulgent" to most, but to me, they're heavenly!

Whatever works for you. Bananas dipped in toasted walnuts are heavenly!! Am making a cucumber and lime basil wine, an experiment as I've never tried cucumbers. I need to rack it off the must and get it in a carboy today or tomorrow, I won't add any sulfites. So far it's cukes, basil, sugar, yeast nutrient, champagne yeast, citric acid, and water.

I still have 4 six-gallon carboys of various wines in my basement I have to rack and bottle that I'll probably never drink. It's so hard to predict what the yeast will do to various phenols, esters, etc. during the fermentation process. I've made cyser from honey and apples that doesn't taste anything like apples OR honey! Microbiology is pretty amazing stuff. I've tried not adding sulfites in the past, but it never ended up with a desirable final result.

LOL - my cheat days turn in to cheat weeks and then cheat month! August was cheat month, I think!
