ChrisComedy's Journal, 31 August 2014

I'm running out of Body Fortress whey protein which I've been taking to avoid losing muscle mass while losing weight. I ordered some more, only to realize after reading reviews that I'd be better off with a purer form, whey isolate. Oh, well, live and learn. I also ordered some Bob's Red Mill nonfat milk to add to the protein shakes. I'm also going to use it to add to the Slim Fast powder I have once I run out of the liquid shakes.

I'm close to finishing off the LaCroix sparkling water which I got to add some variety to drinking water.
The LaCroix doesn't taste that great, even with fruit flavor. A Mastrad Purefizz Soda Maker set arrived today that will allow me to carbonate fruit juice and other drinks. I got it for $40 at Woot, $25 less than on Amazon. Every month, I buy a two-liter Coke as a cheat since I no longer drink soft drinks at home and haul it back on my bike. Since it's mostly water, I'd rather make it at home. Supposedly, the recyclable cartridges are marginally more environmentally friendly than cans and bottles.

The set includes a 26.4 fluid oz. (0.75L) carafe, ten cartridges, and holder for the carafe, co2 cartridges, and accessories. Unfortunately, I have limited counter space so eventually I'm going to have to clear off some gadgets and get a table to hold the kitchen gadgets, which I currently stash on a top shelf above the kitchen cabinets. It's a pain to have to get them off the top shelf to use them. Kroger sells the SodaStream, but much as I like Scarlett Johannsen, SodaStream is embroiled in a political controversy. The Mastrad was cheaper and rated highest at the Sweet Home until it got dinged for rusting and poor customer service (which happened after I ordered it, of course).

I actually passed on a fitness gadget for sale on Amazon, the Perfect Fitness Rip Deck System. I already have a pair of Iron Gym Push Up Rotating Push Up Grips that I got dirt cheap - at Kroger of all places - that I use in conjunction with the whole body conditioning dumbbell program. Judging from the reviews, the Perfect Fitness system doesn't do that much more for the money.

I get frustrated because I want change to happen overnight. However, I continue to make small, incremental changes that will eventually add up. My focus is still on losing weight, but I'm also working on shifting to healthier eating.

Five hours of solid sleep with vivid dreams, two hours of drowsing while listening to podcasts. Overcast and cool this morning with lower humidity, but we're headed for a week of 90+ temperatures. Morning plank. Eight minutes on the Sunny Air Walk Trainer first thing in the morning to burn off glycogen.

Today is another down day (500) calories on the Alternate Day Diet (4:3) and a strength training day with the whole body conditioning program. The Iron Bull grips for the dumbbells arrive Tuesday. We'll see whether they accommodate my small hands better than the Fat Gripz.

Exercise: 30 minutes of the whole body conditioning dumbbell program. Cardio: 50 minutes on the Air Walk Trainer.

Relaxation: two 15-minute sessions with the Miracle Ball Method, working on the neck.

I want to get off my butt and the tablet and start organizing this place, which is starting to get cluttered, if not a set from Hoarders.

Lynch, I made some progress on cleaning up the home office, but I've still got a lot of work to do. I took some before photos so I can track my progress.

Thanks, AilaOne. I tried just calorie-counting, but kept losing and gaining. The Alternate-Day Diet has really worked for me, leading to sustained weight loss.
