Liz_71's Journal, 26 August 2014

Feeling really good today. Walked over 4 miles. Went to the Dr. today for 3 month check up. When I first got diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes 3 months ago my A1C was 11.0. Today it was 6.0. Very good news. Also more good news is I have lost 40lbs in 3 months. Couldn't have done it without the help and support of Fat Secret. I learn a lot from you people on here. Thanks for all the help and support you give!

Your A1C came down 5 points in 90 days??? I didn't think that was even possible. Great job.

That's pretty much what the Dr. Said that she hasn't seen someone's go down that much so fast. I was surprised since she diagnosed me 3 months ago gave me a few pamphlets and a prescription and sent me on my way without me not knowing much about Diabetes. I thought I would of been referred to a Dietician at least. I have learned a lot on this website from reading post and viewing peoples diets. I am thankful for the members on here and their support.

That is awesome! Educate yourself. You will know more than the doctors. The dietician our clinic uses doesn't believe in eating low carb for diabetes. I just do what works for me. I never went back to see that dietician, either.

What I noticed that works for me is staying away from mostly processed carbs. I tried eating whole grain breads and they just made my blood sugar high. So I completely gave up stuff made with any kind of flour and all pasta. I gave up sugars and high fructose also. Now I just need to give up my diet soda.

That's wonderful news! Congratulations and keep up the great work.

Great News! Keep up the good work! If you drink diet soda, make sure it's caffeine free. A lot of times it's the caffeine that you crave, drinking caffeine free will make it easier to cut down and eventually quit. Good Luck!

Good move giving up diet anything. That aspartame will kill you.

Liz, if soda is an absolute must have for you, see if you can find Zevia. It's a soda sweetened with Stevia and Erythritol. I've tried a couple flavors and they're pretty good.

I think I can eliminate soda completely. I think Chillie Willie has hit it right on the head for me. I think I like the soda for the caffeine. I had a soda today but now on I think I am done drinking soda. I am giving it up. Thanks again everybody for the support, advice, and compliments!

You can do it. I gave up soda and coffee. I drink tea but decaffeinated tea after dinner.
