wholefoodnut's Journal, 29 July 2014

Lazy start again today. Slept till after 8:00. Sipping coffee and playing on the computer. Need to get up and move. The rest of the day will be busy, the weather is cool for July; highs only in the mid 80's no rain, perfect vacation weather.

Will start with the grass as I need to water. Let the laundry run inside, while mowing and the turkey breast soak in some brine (never did that before).

New challenge starts today, eat a salad everyday.

I brine our Thanksgiving turkey. Very tasty. After you pull it out and dry it off, don't re-season with salt and pepper. It will get too salty. Also I find the drippings are overly salty for gravy so I cut in Costco gravy to halve the salt. Have a great day!

Ruhr, takes about 10minutes if I sit quietly and pay attention to breathing, then I'm ok for at least a couple hours. About ready to tackle the back. Thanks for the tip rksoup, I'm going to smoke it with apple chips, will have a drip pan underneath so maybe some gravy, if so will make my own using stock. May season with some ground chipotle, won't use salt. I figure it will make good sandwiches or salads at my daughter's this week.

Plan changed a bit on the turkey breast, rubbed it with a jerk mix instead, remembered my DD doesn't like chipotle. Also it kept tipping as it was drying off, I remembered I have one of those ceramic beer can chicken things. Filled it with beer and stuck it under the breast, turkey is sitting pretty in the smoker.! Onions are also in, will cool and chop them to use on burgers. Corn is soaking also in a brine to make smoked corn salad. Will have turkey and corn for dinner. Was fighting with the mower so ran and did some errands and pick up lump charcoal so I could start the turkey. Yippee!!!shopping is done except to pick up milk eggs and a case of beer on the way. Now to fight the mower, I hate pull starts..

Crashed on the couch for a few... turkey is good. Corn is good. Onions are sweet and caramelized. Waiting on the washer so I can clean the kitchen. 60's codes for drains and I moved the laundry, can't do both at the same time or it floods. Laundry will be done. I'm in pretty good shape for leaving tomorrow but not as early as planned due to the brakes.

good luck! I think salads are fun and you can change them up so much with different things. I like to go where theres a salad bar so I don't get bored.enjoy!

Salads are yummy and never ending choices. My body generally does not do well with salad bars. In most cases the restaurants treat the produce with a veggie wash to keep them fresher looking, that wash usually has sodium nitrites or nitrates (never remember which) . A little I can handle, but it's an asthma trigger for me.

Yeah for empty cars. You're right - cleaning a car for 5 kids seems like an exercise in futility! Go glad the pups get to go bye bye. They'll have fun w/ the family when everyone is home from playing.
