Had a doctor visit this morning to run a new A1C for the first time since my Diabetes diagnosis in December. Three months ago, at my diagnosis, my A1c was 9.3. Today it is 5.6!
They consider a diabetic "controlled" between 6.0 and 6.5. At 5.6 I'm more than controlled, I don't even meet the criteria for diabetic anymore! If it were possible to be cured of the disease, they would consider me so. And I have taken no meds at all.
Needless to say, the doctor was very impressed and asked a lot of questions about what I was doing, the tools I'm using, the diet I've subsribed to, etc. so that he could pass some pointers along to other patients that may help them. It feels good to be a success story for a change.
Doc says no need to return for at least 6 months. He also said he doesn't think I need to lose another 40 lbs, regardless of what the BMI chart says. He basically said keep it up but keep it prudent. Don't get too skinny just because of the numbers on some chart. Assuming I'm able to keep a relatively steady pace of weight loss, I should be at my final goal before I see him again in August!
