LauriSinger's Journal, 14 April 2014

Question for all: Looking at my food, it says Fat 40, Protein 54. So, I would have thought that I would have a higher percentage of protein on the chart on the bottom of the page. But, that chart showed Fat 60%, Protein 38%. How can that be??

Diet Calendar Entry for 14 April 2014:
600 kcal Fat: 40.32g | Prot: 54.18g | Carb: 2.35g.   Breakfast: Cheddar Cheese, LouAna Pure Coconut Oil, Egg. Dinner: Egg, Baked or Broiled Salmon. more...

I BELIEVE BECAUSE IT IS BASED ON YOUR RECCOMENDED CALORIC INTAKE

each gram of fat is 9 calories, each gram of protein (and carbohydrate) is 4 calories. 40 grams of fat = 360 calories, 54 grams of protein = 214 calories. the percent value represents the amount of calories it fills up out of your total calories for the day.

I think it may have something to do with fact that there are 9 calories per gram of fat and there are 4 calories per gram of protein so even though you are consuming more protein than fat, the fat is more calorically dense so you really are getting the majority of your calories from fat. HTH.

Oh, yes, thank you! That makes sense! I am slowly adding back more calories after my bout with the stomach flu. Taking it easy, though.
