It can be so frustrating to see a gain when doing everything right. You expect it when you slip up, but not when you're doing great. I'm just trying not to let it make me feel too discouraged. I wish I were one of those people that lost weight easily while breastfeeding. But mine seems to be the opposite. I find that I lose the most at 9 months to a year when they start eating more solids and nursing less. It's like my body wants to hold on to everything. I've always liked weighing daily, but now I'm considering just focusing on eating right, and putting away the scale and weighing in weekly. The way I feel about my progress is becoming too dependent on that number on the scale. For the good news I have not missed a workout yet, almost halfway done with week 2, the biggest challenge is still finding time, but I've been making it a priority. It seems that the baby gives me the most time right in the middle of our school day, so I've been having Dd do some quiet time work, or letting her do it besides me, or doing it after bedtime if I wasn't able to get it in then. its so cold again. It's not supposed to get out of the single digits for the rest of the week. This winter has been so brutal and seems never ending. I can't wait till the days where it doesn't take longer to get ready to go outside then we actually get out there! 4 kids and a mommy constantly cooped up in the house gets old fast! Oh well I am determined not to let the scale get me down today. If I keep doing the right thing I'm bound to start going in the right direction again!

I understand exactly how you feel. I always have had a horrible time losing any weight when I breastfeed. I also know how you feel about being cooped up with kids due to the weather. Hopefully it will be nice when Spring Break rolls around in March. At least I will be able to go out walking and stuff after I have her as long as it isn't too windy. Keep your head up it will be warming up soon!

I'm the same as you too. I never could shed any weight while breastfeeding with either of my boys. I think for some women breastfeeding tells the body to hold onto the weight so you can feed baby. You are doing great and staying positive, keep it up!

I think you are right-on, and have a good plan. You have to roll wth the punches and do what you can when you can. You appear to be doing just fine.

I too do all the right things with food/calories and the gym and the scale is like a slug.

I never lost weight while breastfeeding, either. I have never ever weighed myself more than once a week. It is just so counter-productive, IMHO. I did not lose a single ounce for 15 days, and then I finally lost 1.5 lbs. Hang in there. I suppose it is sort of like the reverse of our weight loss journey, in some respects. When we were not eating carefully, there were probably weeks that we would have expected a huge gain due to eating one too many decadent items around the holidays or a vacation with lots of rich foods. And yet, sometimes there wasn't a weight gain. Who the heck knows why. Some people really dedicate themselves to investigating every connection. I don't have the time or energy for that. As long as the general direction is down, I'm gonna go with that. If I get stuck at a particular weight for too long, then I guess I'll seek out more information. As for this terrible weather, wow, I can't imagine how hard that must be. I lived in a milder climate when my first two were young, and once I had a third, there was only the occasional snow storm and lots of rain. It was an adjustment for me, that's for sure. It will be over soon! Good luck.

Make sure you are not starving yourself by skimping on the eating! Eating too little will mess up your metabolism and make it impossible to lose weight no matter how little you eat! Learn what you need for your daily recommended intake + breastfeeding and eat healthy, of course. You are keeping up with your workouts and by the time baby goes to solid food your weight will roll off and show off that toned body underneath. Keep it up. Otherwise, if you just sit around, your body will be flabby. Making time for you is very important and you are wise to do so.

It's frustrating isn't it! I know people that have to force feed themselves to due to the demand of breastfeeding and still lose weight. My body says nope we better hold on to this, there may be a famine coming! Probably would have been a good thing at one point in history though. Thanks for the encouragment everyone. Imachristianjesusfreak I hope the weather gets nicer there too, especially for spring break! I'm just going to keep pushing and eating the way I know I should and trust that it will come off. And the working out is a must, the muscle tone, and metabolism boost from it does make a big difference for me. Plus I have a love of the feeling of sore muscles the next day! Now let's see if I can manage to go a few days without weighing, that's going to be a hard one for me! I'll weigh in Sunday morning, hopefully there will be better results!

Congrats on sticking with the workout regimen! That's awesome! If need be, just remember that you ARE being successful right now; the numbers may show more agreement later, but in the meantime you are maintaining the healthful habits- that's more important. I hope you don't get too discouraged by the weigh in. It's not a big jump, but I think it can be more of a mind game with yourself than anything else. I agree spacing the weigh ins out a little more may help it be less stressful. Good luck!

Thanks Mrstofu, I.agree, its more of a mind game then anything. Always hard when you step on the scale expecting a loss but see a gain instead. I'm being positive about it today, I know I've been doing the right thing, so its nothing I can change.
