Johanne's Journal, 19 January 2011

Emma is pissed. She's been sitting a few feet from me all day giving me dirty looks. She outgrew her original perch in the tablet weaving loom and now I have cut down her tree! She keeps going to that corner and pacing. What's a cat to do?!!!

I had to go to my daughter's house today, so I thought I would make a quick run to the market, before the snow started REALLY coming down, for eggs, cranberry juice and apples. I very stupidly picked up a large can of potato sticks.

I got home, parked, walked around the car to get the groceries and the next thing I know, I'm falling in slow motion. I hadn't even seen the ice. I usually tuck and roll when I fall, but this time I twisted my left knee and landed on my right elbow and wrist.

Nothing seems to hurt now, except my dignity but when I got in, I was a little late for lunch. It was about 2 p.m. I sat down to assess how bad the fall had been, opened the can of potato sticks and emptied it. They didn't even taste good. I don't like them any more! I can't tell you why I did it. Then I was sick as a dog from the grease and salt, but the rest of me seemed to be fine . . . nothing broken or sprained. I expect I will be a little sore in the morning.

Except for the residual snow and ice from the last storm, it was fairly clear out there. The new snow is still coming down and we have about 5" so far. Yuccccccch! I want spring!!!

Wow, scary. You could have broken something.

Oh, no Jo! I am so glad that nothing seems to be hurt too badly. Take it easy tonight and stay in out of this snow now. As for poor Emma, she doesn't like change, none of them do. When we took down the tree and moved things around, mine were not happy with that at all! lol...she'll get over it! Have a good rest of your evening, Jo, and take it easy!

It's funny how after you have been eating healthy for awhile, the junk food really tastes awful. I wouldn't worry about Emma. Cats always find another cozy nook to curl up in.

@ Bren, the only saving grace is, I'm not the least hungry for dinner. I'm sure I'm OK. I'll probably be sore in the morning, but there is no pain anywhere and this is hours later. As for the loom, that picture of Emma she was 8 weeks old. She doesn't fit any more, though she still stares at it longingly occasionally. @ Z's, yes, I know. It scared me pretty badly. @ Steph, I will be staying in. I really can't tell where the icy patches are now. :-(

Rune, she has lots of cozy nooks, but none that afford her the view she had from her perch in the tree. She'd been sleeping in it for three long years and I played hell getting the white fur out of the needles to put it away. LOL. And, yes, all I could think of after the nasty potato sticks was a nice fresh apple.

61ish (closer to 60) days Jo! we are getting closer to spring. It is supposed to get to -22F tomorrow before the wind with the wind it is supposed to be -41F. I am really glad you didn't seriously hurt yourself, that ice can be a sneaky little buggar at times, make sure you take it easy for the next few days I am sure your muscles are gonna be feeling that fall. As for Emma, I am sure she will find some place new with a good view to curl up in soon.

I gasped when I read about your fall! So glad you're okay. And what is this "I usually tuck and roll"? Are you a klutz like me? lol

Agh Johanne! I really hope you didn't do too much damage...that ice is a mofo, isn't it?? And don't stress too much over a moment of weakness...we all have them. Take care hon, (((((hugs!!!))))))

Wow, I hope you're not too sore today! Thinking about you and sending you warm thoughts! Take it as easy as possible the next few days. A fall can hurt you more than you realize at the time.

Pixi, we aren't as cold as you are, but we're expecting -15F tonight, which is plenty cold for us! Two more months! They're calling for more snow Friday and Sunday with no thaw in between. We have about 9" on the ground. That's a lot for Missouri. It IS pretty. I'm looking at it from INSIDE. LOL.

LOL -15F still too cold for my liking... I want it to be like 90, I would however settle for mid 50's. Snowis beautiful... when it doesnt touch me and I don't have to shovel it!

Coco, yes, I'm a klutz. I tripped over my own foot one time, smashed my face on a table going down and ended up in the emergency room, where they asked the requisite questions about how I got along with my housemates. I let them know that my critters liked me pretty well although the cat had been known to smack me in the morning to wake me up. LOL! That's one of the reasons I'm working so hard on my weight and getting my balance back. I hate falling.

Deb, soreness is usually worse on the 3rd day. As of today, I'm just a tiny bit pulled around the neck and shoulders. My knee (which really hurt when I wrenched it going down), my wrist and my elbow are just fine . . . absolutely no soreness. I'm amazed and very lucky. Thanks for the warm thoughts. I believe in positive energy!

K, I didn't seem to do any damage at all, with the fall OR the potato sticks. Thanks for the hugs. {{{{{Hugs}}}}} back atcha!!!

Pixi, I love the mid 70s. I would thrive in just spring and fall. Oh well. Supposedly the cold is good for us. The people with the healthiest hearts are the ones in the coldest climates like New England

I had the same type of fall last week... and i actually fell three times ina week!! YIKES!! only twice can i blame the ice. the third time, my dog ran out of the house and decided to run downn the block. I live on a busy intersection and I didn't want her to get hurt so i ran after her. i ended up tripping over her..and literally flew into the street!! My elbow and Knee are still cut.. I'm sorry about the potato sticks.. but at least now you know you don't like tham anymore..so that's ALWAYS good!!!

Amy, I DO. They're yucky!!! You're going to have to watch that falling. It sounds like you actually get hurt. Emma insists on running between my feet when I am walking and have one foot in the air. I know she's going to break me someday. I hope you heal quickly!
