Self Determined Woman's Journal, 19 February 2014

I weighed in today at 166. I've lost 101 lbs since my first weigh in one year ago. In fact it's almost exactly a year since I started this get-healthy journey (369 days to be precise).

I didn't think I would be able to lose 100 lbs in one year (I expected it to take much longer). I have worked hard, and I feel lucky that my body has really responded to the changes I've been making. I have focused on eating whole, unprocessed foods -- mostly vegetables. I've been a vegetarian for 20 years (since age 11), but this is really the first time I've truly eaten and loved veggies!

I've also bee getting more active and working toward my goal to hike the Appalachian Trail (if not the whole thing, then atleast a multi-state hike) sometime in the next couple years. Going to the gym has been an important tool for me -- I would like to move my excercise and daily activity out of the gym and find other ways to stay active. I'm considering finding a hiking club, signing up for a 5k, or maybe even a team sport. I want to have fitness goals besides losing weight, and I want to find fitness activities that are actually fun and social.

In terms of weight loss, I plan to lose another 20-30 lbs, so I land somewhere between 135 - 145 lbs. I will let my body decide where my weight lands...but I like having a goal range.

I have worked hard, but in all honesty, losing 101 lbs has been much easier than I thought it would be. When I was at my heaviest weight I dreaded how hard it would be to lose the weight, and I put it off for fear of failure. Now I realize that my real barriers to change were mental/emotional barriers. And while I still continue to work on understanding/changing my emotional eating and binge eating -- I know that I have turned a corner. I am hopeful about the future.
