Yeah I started my new TEAM Fitness class at the gym...I am ready to take on the challenge and see some results! I pushed hard the first day, but I know I can push even harder. However, I was completely dumbfounded by the guy I got paired up with on Monday.

Tell me what you think of this...We were doing a weight training circuit (3 sets, 45 seconds each) Our trainer said to push yourself on teh weights so that by the time you get to the third set the last few reps should be very hard (makes sense right) Well, the guy I was with probably did about a third of the weight he could really do (for example on the tricep machine, I was doing 35lbs and he was doing 15lbs EASILY and on the squat machine I was at 60lbs and he was at 30lbs) everytime I went to switch the weight back up for myself, he would shake his head and say, "I don't know why you are pushing so hard, this is only the first day, keep it light so it looks like you have a better improvement."

Uuuggghh, am I the only one that completely thinks this is half assed backwards. Why not push myself to what I can really do so that when there is an improvement I will know that it is rightfully earned and well deserved, plus where is my benifit in doing the machines on too light of a weight?

On the other hand...It felt good to do heavier weights than a guy (ha ha)

When I started eating healthy and exercising dec 31st I too had someone in exercise class tell me to not push too hard because I would give up more easily. I got discouraged and prayed about it. I realized there will be nay sayers. People dont want you to succeed because they cant succeed or because they dont want to change. You just keep doing what you can, work hard and it will pay off. Be blessed

Yay for you!! I'm with you, why is he even there if he doesn't want to push himeself? I don't like wasting time at the gym. If I'm gonna take the time to go (which I love doing now) I want to get a good workout. One of my instructors was out last week and the sub did not do quite the workout as the normal instructor does, I was bummed...Keep it up, you'll hit your goals in no time!

You Go Girl! Show everyone what a dedicated person can do. Don't let him discourage you - be his inspiration! It is hard when you are paired up with someone that isn't at your level - both physically and/or mentally. You will find some days you don't push yourself as hard as you could but then other days you will over push yourself. Chin Up!!! You are doing a great job! In Advanced class, I am finding I am actually doing better at most things in the circuits then the people that were in this class last session. Trainer doesn't even come to talk to me as much as others. At times, it is discouraging not to hear "good job" or "keep it up" but I look inside myself and tell myself as long as you are doing your best then I give myself a pat on the back.

Haha, you're right, of course! It reminds me of when I was in college-- several of my friends took a bowling class, and the grade was based on "improvement." So those who had never really bowled did fine, improving when they learned how to do it. Those who were pretty good bowlers to being with, though, did horribly, because their performances got worse as they tried to do it the "right way"! Sometimes you just can't win for losing! :D But I can't understand at all paying to take a class as an adult to help you improve and then trying to game the system! Keep up the hard work, Stacie! In the end, you know you'll be the one who's really improved!
