Missychick21's Journal, 15 February 2014

Well, I am beginning to think my body can't tolerate sugar...which is weird since I used to drink soda daily...But, today I ate my carb smart ice cream with chocolate syrup (no judgement on my junk food choice, please) and it gave me a headache. Yesterday I had a few tiny pieces of candy from my daughters valentines from school and it was the same thing...

Now, I have suffered from migraines for years but since I have been taking Excedrin every night I haven't been having headaches during the day as much or if I do get one it has been very mild compared to my usual. Then after eating the sugar it is a very sharp pain.

I'm not asking for everyone's medical advice I am just stating my personal observation of myself. I guess if sugar causes me this much pain maybe it will be easier for me to not even have the occasional treat...

Do some reading about Gluten...and of course sugar. A great sugar substitute is Stevia, gluten is a bit tougher but doable...

I already switched to Truvia for like my iced tea, and I completely quit drinking soda Jan. 10th. Eating candy or ice cream is not a daily occurrence or anything it's just that the headache came with it. I don't get the headache from eating like noodles or anything which of course has gluten...

Maybe try eating things that are sweet but healthy when you crave sugar? Like a handful or two of honey nut Cheerios are sweet enough to satisfy my sugar cravings, but low in calories.

In general I really don't mind not eating sugar all the time or anything, it is just interesting to know i get a headache from it

mmm it may be a migraine trigger for you. One of the things my neurologist had me do was record everything i did or ate for a few months and write down when the headache returned. It was a challenge but it did pinpoint triggers. Since then i have discovered more. Now they have become rare, some of that i attribute to exercise.

When i said now they have become rare i meant migraines

Hmmmm, maybe it's not the sugar (cane sugar/ sucrose) but perhaps artificial sweeteners? Splenda, sucralose, etc? Artificial colors in the Vday candy? There could be other things giving you headaches. Our bodies react to fake stuff sometimes... HTH & good luck!

I have sneezing episodes after I drink Almond Milk or Almond/Coconut Milk. But I will not return to regular milk.

The stuff I ate from my daughter's candy was just chocolate...so chocolate both times...

Interesting that your body is reacting to things you no longer eat. And it's wonderful you're mindful of what's happening. You're doing great.

Maybe it is my subconscious making my junk food physically painful so that I don't want to eat them...either way I guess it is a good thing since it will help me avoid them :)

I tried eating a potato Chip at work one day recently- almost spit it out it tasted so slimy and nasty. I ate an unfilled long John this past week, again at work, all that sugar was overwhelming. Wished that I hadn't eaten it I felt so awful after.

Wholefood. Wish I had the same reaction with chips. My weakness. I had 3 "filled" long johns this week. Loved them. sigh. Again, wish I had the same reaction as you.

What are Long Johns??

Other then yummy. It's a long donut filled with white cream or marshmallow cream with chocolate on top.

Ah gotcha

LO; I only splurged to eat the long John because I assumed it was cream filled. I'm not much for donuts unless they are filled. I was disappointed. Jeri
