Cooking4LifeAndLovingIt's Journal, 17 January 2011

Hi FatSecret Friends,

I have joined 2 challenges since I joined FatSecret.com on Friday evening, January 14, that is an inspiration and that does challenge me.

The first one that I joined is Last Ones Standing! This one challenges members to lose a pound a week for ten weeks or be eliminated from the challenge. My goal is to lose 2 to 3 pounds a week, and at that rate, I will have my 29 pounds overweight off by the middle of March. But I love FatSecret so much, that I plan to stay with this site even through maintenance to help me keep the weight off.

While I am getting my weight off, and once I get my weight off, I could be a help to others to help them get their weight off. In 1994, which is some years ago, I had become a Weight Watchers leader, and I hosted Weight Watchers meetings in one place that was a regular for me, and then I filled in for others in different places a couple of times a week. At the time I had been coming to Weight Watchers meetings off and on for about 9 years. Every time my weight hit 133, I would call one of my daughters and together we would head for the meetings to get the weight off. Both of us went on to become Weight Watch leaders. In 2001 I began the Atkins diet and lost from 154 to 117 pounds, so Atkins works too, and I love the Atkins diet also.

This time my plans are to gradually cut back unhealthy carbs and fats, and to generally eat more healthy, to lower unhealthy fats and unhealthy carbs from my diet. This is not to say I won't eat something unhealthy here and there, but to keep it to occasionally, so that these foods won't contribute to weight gain and an unhealthy life. And as I prepare our foods healthy, my goal is to work on making those foods delicious and enjoyable to have on our plates, and this is the reason for the name Cooking4LifeAndLovingIt.

The other challenge I joined was 60+ Golden Girls Challenge 8 lb. loss challenge. The reason I picked this one out, is that not only do I meet the criteria for the age, but I liked the challenge to exercise 20 minutes a day. I already, and have done so for years, walk practically every day for a half hour. Occasionally I will get on a recumbent stationary bike. But I won't to get into working out with weights. So I thought I would look to the challenge for 20 minutes of exercise to motivate me to get into working out with weights.

When I walk, I don't feel I get a workout, but it is good for me, so I will not give up on my walking. I can only walk at the pace of about 1 mph. I fell in 2001 and broke both ankles, the heel, and on one side of the lower part of my right leg. So I have difficulty in walking, so even though it is good for me, I can't call it a workout. Occasionally I will workout with weights, but my time is limited. I work from my home, and between cooking, laundry, housekeeping, family, and my home business, my time is limited. So I need something to challenge me to work in the workout with weights. Something that will truly be a workout for me. So this is where the second challenge that I joined I feel will inspire, and motivate me.

I hope what I may have written thus far, may be to others a challenge, an inspiration and motivation for others who are members of FatSecret.com.
