2ManyCurves's Journal, 13 December 2013

I have this theory about life that I fully believe in: Whatever you put into the universe will come back to you amplified. This morning, my husband announced that he wanted to drive up to the "big city" about an hour and a half away and visit with some of the men in a drug and alcohol recovery center that also doubles as a homeless shelter. Particularly, he wanted to go work in the detox room (which is the first step for men coming off the street or off drugs). But, my husband didn't have the extra funds for the trip. It may be strange to some, but after having spent a decade of my adult years single, I maintain a separate financial account for my earnings. Maybe some day I will combine financial accounts, but that is one part of my previous independence that I just have not relinquished. In any event, I promptly gave my husband $100 so he could drive up and spend the day volunteering with the detox portion of the shelter. But, before he left, I went into our room and got together three large bags of clothing that is now too big for us for him to take up and donate to both the women and men's shelter. (See, FS, I'm still tying this into food and weight loss.) Now finances have been of concern to me lately as I have previously noted in my journal. But, I felt it was more important that my husband be able to go spend the day helping these guys than me having an extra hundred to blow on vacation. Not thirty minutes after I walked into my office at work, my boss came in and handed me an unexpected Christmas bonus check. Now, I certainly don't do things merely for good Karma. But, it was just such an unexpected surprise and it truly reminded me that when you send out good vibes, good vibes come right back at you. Those fellas in detox at the homeless shelter needed medical treatment, clothes and basic necessities much more than I need a pedicure or massage. It feels good. For Christmas, I think maybe I will donate some of my time to help out some of our local non-profits and animal rescues. I'm not a medical professional, so I can't really help people the way my husband does. But maybe I can find somewhere that would love some help from a foul-mouthed girl with anger-management problems.

Happy Holidays, FS Friends. While you're losing, give a little.

That was really a good vibe coming back around! My mom and gram used to say all the time, that what goes around comes around. I believe that too. What you do in your life affects those around you. My New Years resolution is the same every year. It has nothing to do with anything that I want. I resolve every year to make at least one person a day smile. Very simple in fact, but with wide reaching consequences!!! I love to hear about the chain reactions from that single smile!! I'm glad your husband got to go and help. I'm trying to help the girl across the street teach her kids about helping others. Speaking of kids, here she comes!!! Have a great day and spread that wonderful Christmas cheer!!

I know what you mean about 'not doing things JUST for good Karma' but that's exactly what it is ... what goes around comes around so doing good things will being you good things. So good on you for making that call and even if you hadn't received the bonus I'm sure you'd have felt better for it. I'd read in the book 'heal your life' that being cheap with yourself would also bring cheapness back - that putting money out to the universe will result in the universe sending it back. So the first time I tried that - because I've always been cheap with Myself ... I started by buying an expensive Cross pen. Later that day in the shop I had a new customer walk in and spend 100x the expense of that pen. Just like last weekend - buying all the wall art - I had a customer walk in and spend more than he ever has in the past. It's hard to ignore the cause and effect of that, isn't it.
