OKAY. Tomorrow is setting up to be a weight loss nightmare so I have to make a game plan.

My team at work is going out for lunch tomorrow and, thankfully, it's an upscale Asian place - I checked out the menu and it looks like I have a few options: grilled quail with eggplant in chili-lime, rabbit leg in Thai chili with garbanzo and mushrooms, and a Japanese sea bass with beans and roasted pepper. I'm leaning toward the grilled quail, but I make poultry at home all the time. Maybe I should go with the sea bass? What do you guys think?

Then, tomorrow night, we're going to a potluck at a place my boyfriend used to work. My strategy is to survey the landscape before diving in but unfortunately, I have no way to know what anyone is going to bring. Hm. Maybe I'll just stick to very small portions to offset it. We'll see.

Two outings in one day... yep, that's trouble. :) Generally one I can handle with intermittent fasting but two is tough. Maybe eat something healthy (but filling) prior to the potluck and then you won't be terribly tempted? Or sometimes at a potluck I'll just skip all the entrees and have what I really want anyway... the cake. If I know I'm going to have it anyway I figure why load up on other stuff just because I'm trying to maintain some illusion of keeping with tradition. Have your healthy choice at lunch, no dessert, and save the dessert for the potluck with a tea or coffee. In any case.. have fun! Sounds like a good time!

When I am going to functions where what is available is beyond my control I always eat low carb. Carbs are digested into sugars, which are stored as fat. Even if I overindulge in proteins, at least I don't have to worry about it going straight to my hips lol. I am NOT a low carb dieter, I am a healthy carb balanced eater, but when things are beyond my control proteins have never let me down. Best of luck, and remember to enjoy!!

Thanks friends! mcarthey, I will definitely try eating something filling before going to the potluck. If I get enough protein at my work lunch, I might not even be that hungry for dinner, and I'll allow myself a slice of cake! Sounds like a good plan! Yolanda, I agree! I'm a healthy-carb eater like you (not low carb, but I try to stay away from simple carbs like bread, pasta, and rice) and I've found that protein-based meals are the key to filling up without spiking my blood sugar and gaining weight. Hopefully there will be some protein-based dishes at the potluck. Thanks! :)

Go with the sea bass - it's usually fabulous and incredibly healthy. Most importantly - enjoy the time with friends. That is a primary source of nourishment.
