I definitely suffer from OCARD! Obsessive Compulsion to Alter Recipes Disorder. It seems to be my favorite recreational activity. Today we made a butter nut muffin in a minute, chia seed raspberry jam, and low carb meringue cookies in vanilla and chocolate. Tomorrow, going to try some flax crackers with sesame and chia seeds if I'm feeling better.

This respiratory virus has pretty much wiped me out to the point of complete exhaustion. The coughing, headache, sniffles, plugged head, ear ache, and dizziness are not enough so I am not getting irregular heartbeats and chest pain. This is a concern as it's only been 4 months since my heart stent was put in.

My advice to anyone here is that if anyone is sniffling around you, don't walk but RUN in the opposite direction as fast as you can!

I swear since I turned 50 my body is literally falling apart. I have plantar fasciitis in my feet that has also decided to show it's ugly self and last week completely seized up my back at a pumpkin festival. The doc said congrats, I have degenerative osteoarthritis in my feet and back and it will never leave.

On a positive note, I am still losing weight, ever so slowly, and have even impressed myself with all of my new recipes!

Good morning - seems like I am always missing you on here (my schedule is so crazy). Sorry to hear about the diagnosis but I find that whatever our old age ailments are, eating healthy and losing weight can do nothing but help. Good luck with perfecting those recipes!

Wow. And I tho't I had health problems. Sorry to hear about the osteoarthritis. I hurt the bursa in my knee a few years ago, so when I turn or step wrong it swells and I can hardly walk. That and the diabetes, and high BP is the extent of my 'major problems' but I just want to get off the meds so I don't have to depend on a doctor and insurance for my life. . . . You must travel the same LC recipe sites that I do. I love recipes. I have copied tons of them off the websites and plastered them in a 3 ring binder. I save nothing but low carb, now, and I've thrown out almost all the 'regular' recipes that have gluten, rice, wheat etc in them. I don't remember the last time I had a baked potato (which I love). . . . Now I have to get rid of the cookbooks that don't agree with my diet life plan . . . . . . . You really should try Buttoni's Slider Buns. I made a mistake with the recipe and added 3oz (it called for 3Tbsp) of cream cheese. . . . They are so satisfying. . . I haven't made the chia jam (I'll have to find the recipe again), but I did make prickly pear jelly or jam in Sept with the last of the cactus pears. . . . I hope you get feeling better soon. . . Take care, Donna

OCARD!!! LMAO! I have that too! I am always subbing in things I have on hand due to lack of the "right" ingredients. It's a part of cooking, I say! If you don't have a bit of OCARD, you just haven't been in the kitchen cooking long enough. :-) I agree with you wholeheartedly! My health went downhill as soon as I turned 50! It all began with a horrible case of bronchitis ... then just kept getting worse. I should have my feet checked too. Some days I can hardly walk on them. I hope you get over the nasty crud. Keep baking goodies and pass us some recipes. :-)

Sorry to hear others are also having health problems. Fortunately, no diabetes yet but the heart disease and the osteoarthritis is plenty to deal with right now especially while trying to beat this darn virus. Remember guys, I am also the mother of a 4-year-old who keeps me busy. She tries to help by holding my hand when my feet or back are in extreme pain. Luckily though, that's not everyday. I get most of my recipes also by surfing the net and I'll have to try Buttoni's Slider Buns. Of course, I modify everything and am known as the queen of kitchen gadgets. It's the only room in the house where second best is just not adequate. The rest of my ideas I get from you guys. I lurk on your diet calendars to see what looks good to try. Tonight, trying my own version of Bolognese Sauce over 0 carb, 0 calorie Shiratake pasta. This better be good sauce because the pasta has me a bit concerned. Saw a really cute idea for bread. Use the basic flax MIM and microwave in one of those bread shaped sandwich containers then slice into two pieces. Already went to Wal-Mart and got one for a whopping $1.49! The flax crackers should be good but I got so busy making varieties of meringue cookies and searching town for sugar free candies to crush left me running behind. For those of you who are using golden flax... Amazon has a 96 oz container of golden flax seed for 15.99 and there was a 15% coupon too! I decided to grind my own so it stays fresh longer. I'm always looking for a bargain and new ideas to make this diet interesting. Also, trying the Lori Ann flavor oils in blueberry, cheesecake, and apple for the MIM's. Walmart has a few flavors like strawberry, peppermint, and grape but had to order the others. Well, off to my OCARD again to see what a mess I can make. Thinking of making a blog about my adventures. Going to call it "dishesinmysinkandidontcare. LOLOL.

Would appreciate your opinion of the Shiratake pasta. Have heard everything from "super yummy" to "can't get past the smell".

LOL!!! Love that name for your new blog!! I live to read good sugar-free and grain-free blogs... so, if you start one up, let me know. My current favorite is GourmetGirlCooks. I did not put in the correct URL cause FS wipes it out. Let us know how those noodles work out for ya. I haven't used them.

Buffy, I just has my angel hair shiratake noodles with the Bolognese Sauce and they were perfectly fine. I was not over-powererd with an awful smell like I anticipated nor were they like rubber or any other bad reviews that I read. I prepared them exactly as directed and after sautéing them to get the water out, added my sauce and ate them like any other angel hair pasta. Yes, they are like al dente pasta but covered in sauce who cares! It's a real noodle! I liked them so much and was so thrilled to finally have the option to have something to put sauce on that I gave a package to our preacher's wife who also is dieting. I don't know about the fettuccine or the rice shiratake but I do know I will be ordering another box of the angel hair from Amazon. I read that publix carries them but that's 35 minutes away and last time I looked I did not see them and my feet hurt too bad to wander around a store. I love my Amazon!

Mom, I will certainly let you know! I was checking out the different hosting sites the other day but have not yet decided on one or completely grasp the whole concept. I have had webpages before but most were free sits except for my business one that totally engulfed me because I was trying to add pics of ALL my jewelry products. It was too much. I'm a 52 year old mother again and believe it or not a student who will finish my Masters of Psychology early next year so I sometimes get overwhelmed. A blog might be good for me. I just thought of another name... nosugarnoproblem. That one is probably taken though, will check next week if this virus ever goes away. Going to bed early, have an awful headache. Buy the shiratake, especially if you can find it locally and only buy one. I had to order 6 so I'm glad it worked out!

You should have a contest to name your new blog. I think both of the names you picked were pretty cool. "dishesinmysinkandidontcare" just made me laugh and if I was surfing the net and saw that, I would definitely have to go and look to see what it was all about. Your bio is quite interesting.. 52 yr old mom and getting a masters is just awesome!

I ordered a 25lb bag of flax seeds from Sprouts. The seeds were on sale and they gave me 10% off the bulk order. I put them in containers and had them on the shelf in the kitchen and then read it's best to keep them cold, so all of the containers are in the freezer except the one I'm working out of. I grind a few cups up and keep those in the fridge. . . . Rainshine. . . . you are awesome!!! . . . Sprouts has golden flax seeds in bulk for about $1.60 lb. I'm not particular about the color and the flavor seems to be the same, so I get the dark seeds which are cheaper. Here in AZ the 99cent store has a 1 lb bag for, you guessed it... 99cents. . . . I love you blog name, too. dishesinmysinkandidontcare. Love it!

Db - I love golden flax as it has a more delicate flavor and texture? I was using the Hodges Mill which is darker and found it a rougher texture ... found it in Walmart. I found a grocery close by that buys in bulk and then puts it in smaller bags... so it's more convenient. I am on the lookout now for chia seeds.
