HCB's Journal, 21 October 2013

Greetings Buddies:

OMG! I feel like an idiot for getting on the "IDIOT BOX" this morning.

I weighed last week and saw the scale going down and was encouraged...today it is UP where I started four weeks ago! WTF?

I feel lighter and appear to have a waistline again...I even changed the battery in the darn thing...but no...same weight as four weeks ago!

And NO, I do not buy the "fat into muscle" theory as I have only done four workouts...

I cannot believe how frustrated I feel...and sad. I want to lose the rest of this weight so badly.

I really may need to revamp my macronutrients again. Perhaps it is too much fat even though healthy fats; or it could be too much protein; or not enough good carbs!

Argh! Ideas?

I am dedicated, determined, and diligent!

Hi... don't sweat it. Please. I do enough for everyone. It will go down. I went up 5lbs in 4 days and dropped 3 as of this morning. But, of course, I had to get hysterical about it eventhough I knew it would probably go down. But not at the rate I want it to. You eat a very clean diet. Keep up the good work.

I agree it could very easily be a temporary water thing, especially since you're feeling lighter & have a waistline! I know its easier to say than do, but give it a few days, then re-evaluate. It certainly sounds like you are doing all the right things. Hang in there! xoxox

Don't panic - I am sure it is just a fluke. Remember why you call it the "Idiot Box".

You are doing great! Ignore the idiot box and concentrate on how you feel and look. That's what counts. You are not a number.

I did take a peek at your food diary. I think its pretty good what your eating. BUT: aren't you starving all the time? You need to eat at least your 1200kcal. You are consistingly under. If you work out you need the food to help your muscles to repair themselves. This is just my five pence :)

Things will work out. Look in the mirroe and see how amazing you look. Should a number really depict that. Have you tried on a pair of pants that were snug and now fit better? That should be the real gauge not the idiot box. Take care I know you can and will do this!

@schmetterling34: Yes, I agree my calories may be low...but I eat lots of protein which satiates me and I am often not hungry, and I drink a gallon of water which also fills me up!

Hi HCB. Glad to see your journal entries again. You are, as you said, dedicated, determined and diligent! The advice you have received is right; don't panic! When you increase your workouts a weight gain is normal. Not because the fat has become muscle, but because the muscle takes on more water. Something about the increase stress on the muscles. Be cautious about adding too much protein. Good fats are better. They are more satiating, and they are good for you. Too much protein is converted to glucose by your body, and soon you are right back where you were with eating lots of carbs. Fluctuating energy levels, moods, and blood sugar. Who wants that? Higher fat levels stabilize the blood sugar, and are anti-inflammatory. They also boost immune response. And, despite what we have been taught for years, they are good for you. My HDL is higher than it has ever been, my triglycerides are are basement levels, and my overall risk of heart attack has dropped precipitously since I shifted my macronutrients to high fat, very low carb, and normal protein. And I just feel better. Everyone keeps telling me how great I look. And I have been better able to get through some extreme high stress periods without getting sick or fatter. Check out garytaubes.com and Jimmy Moore's blog, Livin La Low Carb Vida, (I think!). I was very skeptical at first, but approached it from a short term trial approach and it was transformative. My weight loss has stalled by my health is dramatically improved. Being a woman past menopause means weight loss is not the same as for the rest of the human race. We need to adjust our expectations on weight to a attainable place. What is critical is our health, and thus our well being and longevity. Be well sweetie! Cheering you on!
