CollyMP's Journal, 19 August 2013

I have discovered something that I'm sure is a "duh" to most folks here but was a real revelation to me. If I make the first meal of the day a BIG one, I eat less the rest of the day, and eat better as well. The last few days I have made a whopper of a breakfast and eaten every bite of it, but it lasts me most of the day, I don't snack and nibble and I eat smaller portions at subsequent meals, and I'm also eating more fruit and veggies with those meals. I guess breakfast (or first meal, as I don't always want breakfast) really is important!

Hmmmm I believe there are commercials and all kinds of things that tell people that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and don't you tell Chris he needs a good breakfast before lessons?

that's because Chris is a grumbly-butt if he doesn't eat! Every "diet plan" I read tells you to divide your calories up equally and only eat about 350 to 400 calories at breakfast. That doesn't work for me! I've found I'm just hungry all day if I do that. I need more to get on with! In my defense, on weekends especially I eat breakfast and instantly launch into canning/gardening/errand running/laundry/dishes/housewo... for the rest of the day. Today I need to go to the yard debris drop-off and unload about a quarter ton of shrubbery from the back of my truck, and I need to mow, and I need to cook dinner, and sometime in there I need to take buttons off my husbands left pants pocket so they quit scraping the leather seat in his care, and sew down the flappy pockets on his cargo shorts. It's no wonder a little 300 calorie breakfast doesn't do it for me!

I find if I have a heavy breakfast with lots of protein is lasts me longer and keeps me from eating too much later on in the day. That is until late at night when the kids are waving ice cream in my face.... It does work though!

Chris is a grumbly butt, yes. I shiver at the thought of him feeding himself throughout the day. YOu are way too busy NOT to eat a heavy breakfast to make it through your activities. I'm sure it will help you a lot.

yea! I'm glad you shared this. I often skip or skimp on the first meal but I'm trying to take others' best ideas and see if they work for me. I've found that a glas of water before any meal or in lieu of snacking is often helpful....though at times i just want to chomp down on and apple or carrot stick helps.

Nodding yup... a good solid breakfast usually lasts me several hours as long as it's a fair portion of protein & fat. Tuna with mayo or liver & onions are both fairly bullet proofing for me. I don't have anything to keep me from the night stalkers though ... if anyone here has THAT one .. I'd love to hear it.

Now I DO love to start the day with some tuna Bella, I find that a yummy meal any time of the day-I've been known to eat it right out of the pouch! Ce, I try to remember to fill up a big insulated mug with ice and water and drink all day. I feel so much better when I do that. Missy it really does help keep me going and it keeps me from snacking all day long just because I'm still hungry. Eating enough right there at the start really does it for me. DFW-I too have problems with the siren-song of ice cream! LOL!
