Been doing pretty well on the lower sodium diet...have seen great results in my health...blood pressure is actually on lower end of normal. There is no swelling in my legs at night, and NO PAIN in my legs at night. It really took some effort to educate myself on low sodium, reading labels, etc. and found sodium "hidden" in even fresh foods.

Tyson puts "15% sodium and water" in their fresh chicken...think about it, it is selling WATER and SALT for the same price as meat. DUH Ditto with their pork.

Sanderson farms, sold by Kroger does NOT put any sodium in their chicken AND when you get the package home and open it, there is not a ton of fat hidden in the package. Kroger frequently has it on sale for $1.99 a pound and you get a POUND of meat without fat...golly! Tyson ought to take a lesson.

I love lean pork sausage so the only way was to make it myself. I looked on the net for recipes for sausage without any sodium and came up with a couple of GREAT ones. I have the butcher that kills my pig that I raise to grind the meat and freeze it in 2 pound packages, then when I want sausage, i thaw it and put the seasonings in. Presto! SAUSAGE and no salt. I've also worked out a way to make bacon as well with potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride. At first the low sodium diet was awful but now that I have adjusted my taster...I can't stand the taste of salt.

As a retired health care professional I am well aware of the negative effects on our health that salt plays, I am just DOING what I know to be of benefit even if I didn't want to at first. Now I am a radical convert to low sodium..
