Well, I'm into the second day of my two days under 500 calorie process. I actually stayed under 500 calories yesterday which is pretty incredible. I wasn't so sure if I could do it, but I did. Today may be tougher. I got a call from an old friend who wants to do lunch. I suspect my daughter and son-in-law will be coming over for supper tonight (we will be flying out together from this little airport close to our home Saturday morning). I'm pretty positive that I can do this. Today I will have to button up the loose ends at work. I have an angry employee that I need to listen more too, and interviewed a young man yesterday who carries some interesting baggage .... But has incredible talent. My hope is that I can put some things on "hold" until I return in August. I can use some "down time". My soul is tired. I need to fill this emotional/psychological container that lies within me. Hopefully I will find that quiet place where I can rearrange my own spiritual furniture and live comfortably with myself.

I like your imagery about rearranging your spiritual furniture - it brings up many thoughts and pictures in my mind. Congrats on completing your first low calorie day. Your challenges today do sound a bit daunting for trying to do a repeat of yesterday's calorie count but I think you can manage it. The key might be in not trying to keep it secret from your friend at lunch or your daughter and son-in-law at supper so you don't feel compelled to put on an appearance of eating "normally". I hope your soul gets the down time it needs on your trip. Bon voyage!

Wow - two days in a row seems pretty tough. Many people do it that way but most have at least a day between. I do my fast days on Monday and Wednesday. I hope you get your down time sooner than later. One thing is certain: we think very clearly when fasting. Maybe that's why the Bible talks about fasting and praying. When we are removed from the eating cycle it is easier to take stock, to analyse our lives and think. I usually figure out what I am going to eat ahead of time and have it ready so I can focus on other things. I think it's almost easier to eat like that than to have to be pre-occupied with always trying to cut down, and then feeling guilty as if we didn't measure up. With the fasting, you either do it or don't do it - there is no compromise. It really takes the pressure off for me. I guess I am rambling but I do hope you are well and successful and soon feel rejuvenated.

I'm afraid to admit that things broke down in the evening. When our kids showed up we went into our usual hosting personalities bringing out the wine and goodies. The good news is that I had a solid day & half where things went well. I know now that it's doable. Let's see how the rest of the vacation goes.
