Nikitawells's Journal, 06 October 2010

I am nervous that I will regain my weight. I feel so close to the end. I can always get there, but what is gonna keep me there? Why do I want to be and stay healthy? What is gonna be different this time? What's gonna be my motivation to stay at a healthy weight, by eating right? When I was overweight, my motivation was the mirror. Now what do I have. How are all of my buddies gonna keep it off for good! What's gonna keep you in the race when you are finished losing your weight?

Even though I still have a long way to go I have thought about this. For some reason this time I'm getting a lot more engaged with the exercise part of it than I ever did the other times I've tried to lose weight, so I think that once I reach my goal weight I will try to maintain it for a little while. Like a month or two, then maybe try to lose a little more. But I am much more focused when I have a goal, so once I reach the weight one I'll probably set fitness goals to keep me motivated. If I need something to "work on" I can target certain muscle groups & try to develop them. I think the difference between now & past attempts is just maturity. I had good intentions but I wasn't mature or patient enough to follow through. Only you can really answer those questions about what is going to make this time different for you, but by the time you need to know I have a feeling you'll be ready to answer them. :)

I think it is important to remember that this is a life long process which requires the same amount of diligence whether you are at goal or trying to achieve goal. Continue to set rewards for reaching mini goals. Those goals will just be different once maintenance is reached. I know if I lose sight of that, I will then most certainly gain the weight back and I am not willing to go through that again. Kat, I am with you, maturity certainly has alot to do with the mindset.

That makes a lot of sense! I know and am educated in how to eat. What to eat. What throws me off. And I should always remember why I wanted to lose weight to begin with. I remember writing down a list of things of why to lose weight. I keep it in my wallet. I totally forgot about it. It is a very long list. As I read it, I remember the sadness and shame I felt being in that overweight body. And that is motivation alone. I must frame this list. I am glad I wrote this list in the beginning of my weight loss, when I felt the worse. Thanks for both of your input!
