cocobutt's Journal, 17 July 2013

We returned Monday night from a 5-day trip to Yellowstone. Met up with our daughter and her boyfriend in Salt Lake City, then drove up. This type of outdoorsy vacation is out of my comfort-zone these days, so it's probably good for me. Saw a lot of elk, moose, bison, and even bears and wolves. Our first day we hiked up a mountain to Inspiration Point and then another mile into a valley. All in all we hiked about 7 miles that day, much of it uphill wearing daypacks at 7000-ft+ above sea level. I was surprised at my endurance since I have been a slug at home lately. Mr Coco had a bad case of altitude sickness after this hike; it just left me breathless. I miss the clean and dry air in Big Sky country. We're back in the lowlands and it's smoggy, humid, and stiflingly hot today.

I would say going to yellowstone from the deep south then hiking was quite a fete for a person needing to lose another 47 lbs with a daypack no less! I think that would have done me in. We plan on taking a road trip to yellowstone next year, but I'm not much of a hiker. We have been there several times when the kids were younger, but haven't been there for many years.

Kudos for doing it and not finding excuses not to go. A forever memory made even more memorable you did it being a little overweight.
