Footloose and Gluten-Free

Throughout my weight-loss efforts, I've significantly scaled back on the "processed carbs." In the past, whenever I've reached my goal weight, I'd go right back to eating carbs again.

As I've written before, I'm determined to not let the weight come back on. A while back, I went through a little depressive state about my weight loss, where come Monday my pants were tooooo tight. I chalked it up to 'misbehaving' on the weekends.

After doing some real looking at my food diary, I realized, my calorie intake wasn't much different. My fat/protein/carb ratio wasn't much different.

What WAS different? WHERE my carbs were coming from!! During the week, carbs would come from fresh veggies, fruits, oats, some bread or cereal here or there. On the weekends, always bread! cereal! muffins or biscuits! I've been working towards gluten-free and the difference is amazing. How I feel. How my stomach looks. 5 pounds higher than my previous low, and yet my stomach is flatter, thighs are smaller and my pants fit better!

Gluten-Free is definitely more of a lifestyle change than any of the other changes I've made in the past (and the most expensive!), but for me, I'm already seeing the benefits. It's become a fun past time to peruse the health food stores and organic section to find new gluten-free treats. Some are so-so, some i get one bite and can hardly finish and some are new staples. (Chili Nacho Cheese Protein Chips! PopChips!)

Wishing I figured this years ago...
