My cart is now filled with clear plastic baggies filled with colorful veggies instead of colorful boxes, and I'm happy.

Huh?? My 15-year old son and I recently went shopping together. I gave him his own cart, and I took one, too. We shopped some by ourselves and some together and in the end, his cart had a lot of brightly colored boxes in it. Mine, on the other hand, had lots of clear little baggies filled with brightly colored objects inside. So why does it matter, you ask?

By the time our food, whether from the box or the bag, comes to our plate, the quality of the food is really quite different. I've come to realize that I really enjoy fresh, whole foods. Not only is the quality better on my plate, but it is also more nutritious, less fattening, and less expensive! Whoda thunk?? Sure, if you buy your goodies out of season you'll pay a pretty price, but you can be a savvy shopper and still eat healthy, too.

What really surprised me is when I was standing in line to check out. You know, to pass time you can gawk at all those magazines sitting there or look around the store. I chose to look around at other people's shopping carts and all I can say is it is no wonder why America is battling the bulge. It's not just my son that had his cart filled with brightly colored boxes... it's that way in almost every cart there at the grocery store. How sad is that??

We may have sacrificed our favorite tempting treats to get healthy, but folks, we are ahead of the race. Losing this weight has more benefits to it than I could have ever imagined. Thank you, Dr. Atkins!!

What's funny about this journal entry is that I ate more Atkins food yesterday than what I have in a long time! That's what happens when you don't have oodles of time to prepare your meals fresh. Bummer...
