Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 08 July 2013

I lived through the 4th of July weekend, through a road trip with small children, and insanity with relatives. My diet died. Bad thing about going home is all of a sudden you're surrounded with things you don't usually have but you remember very very well. Like chinese food. Here? I barely eat the stuff. Relatives? Love it and knew I hadn't had any in at least a year so of course we had to go there! Dairy Queen? They don't have them here so of course we had to go get a blizzard. Home cooked meal!?!?! = mom cooking things I can usually avoid. *smacks head* The good thing is I had a great time, the kids had a great time, and I'm hitting weightloss hard now that the vacation is done. I don't have the 9yr old for 3 weeks so there is no excuse for junk food in the house. In 3 weeks the family will bring her here and go camping so I need to be swimsuit ready.. or at least less or a train wreck before then.

The plan... 9 yr old not being here is going to be so hard. She entertains little man so I can do things like cook dinner, take a shower,... pee alone. Now it's up to me to entertain, keep him happy, and try to not let everything fall apart... and do barn chores. This added activity of peekaboo, chase, hide and seek, and throwing the child up into the air yelling weeeeeeeeee! Should burn more calories. I just have to plan smart meals.. or hire a chef. That is if little man lets me eat. He wants what everyone else is eating so technically my portions will be smaller and there will be extra fork action to his mouth instead of mine which should burn more calories. The elliptical is in the bedroom. I can workout after I put him to bed. Working out should equal more energy. I will need more energy. Hopefully this is true and not just something they tell people to get them to workout. If it's not true and I can't convince my body it's true then I will be passed out somewhere while little man jumps on my head.

So far so good. Veggie omlete for breakfast, chef salad for lunch, making burgers for hubby that I will turn into a taco salad for myself. I just have to avoid the ice cream and chocolate chunk macadamia nut cookies hubby bought then decided he didn't like so he regifted them minus one cookie to me. *smacks head*

Ok.. now for unweightloss stuff. I have a garden. It's living. I haven't killed it yet. There are tomato plants. Should I put those cage things around them? Can I just tie them to a stick? I see people with cage lookin things but I can't figure out why they are imprisoning the plants. They aren't crooked or anything yet. Cabbage. When does the cabbage turn into a ball? I have fluffy balls. They should be balls right? Mammoth Jalapeno? I planted one of these. Tiniest plant ever. Jalapeno is only 1 inch long. When is a jalapeno ripe?!?!?! It's green.. but they are green. At least tomatoes and strawberries turn colors!!! Crap.. I put the Jalapeno next to the strawberry! Will I have spicy strawberries? I would ask my husband.. the farmer.. these questions but he just looks at me funny, shakes his head, and walks away muttering something.. or maybe he's laughing and trying not to show it. It's hard to tell... either way he's no help.

You have the writing style of one of my dear friends who just moved to Florida. Thanks for making me laugh....and I have no idea how you tell when a jalapeno is ripe. Excellent question!

Congrats on surviving the vacation, the drive with children and the relatives!!! If you can survive all of that, then you can survive the diet jungle!! Good luck with your weight loss plans. Just remember why you are doing it especially when you are eating!! As for the tomatoes, you can do either the cage or the stake thing! As for the jalapeno, you might want to wait until it's about 2" long before you pick it. PS...was the family surprised at how well you look?!

You survived! That was a long trip with just you and the kids so you should be proud of yourself for not going crazy. Sounds like today will be a good eating day for you, and chasing the little man around will give you lots of exercise. I put my tomatoes in cages mainly so my dogs don't trample them and the bunnies can't get them so easily, and to give them something to hang on to as they get bigger. My garden is pretty sad this year, other than the volunteer gords that are coming up, those will be interesting to watch. My hope is that I get some zucchini, that's all I want and I'll be happy.

I see jalapeno in everything these days so I'm sure strawberry jalapeno jam would be a hit :-)

Busy busy busy! Yea, since you're in it to win it, just keep avoiding sugars and carby foods! You'll see that stuff melt off since you'll be moving around and sweating so much! So the choco-almonds can wait :P!

I knew you could survive! I can never pass up a home cooked meal either. :) Yey growing gardens! I doubt the strawberries will turn spicy... BUT if they do, they would be awesome in a salsa!

Survival is a good thing. Either a cage or a sturdy pole should work for your tomatoes. However, in NC they grow 6 - 7 ft so DH builds me pyramids.

Yeahh what did the fam have to say about all of your weight loss? I'm jealous of your growing garden. Hope you get to pick some yummy fresh veggies soon!

The family didn't mention the weightloss. They did keep trying to feed me though. Every time I turned around they were asking if I needed anything. A strawberry pie, cheesecake, and peanut m and m's later they stopped asking. lol

Good to hear your survived the car trip and the family food fest. I am cracking up over the dairy farmers wife's garden questions?!? I'm a city girl and our garden somehow survives despite my ignorance. Of course that is probably thanks to my hubby. I'm back in the saddle as well this week so here's to hoping we both have success on the scale!
