Smollettri's Journal, 29 June 2013

Ok, after the disaster of my birthday on the 22nd (I convinced myself I HAD to have cake on my birthday AND bought two cakes, one for the next day as well), I have managed to keep on track since Tuesday. I still have some rough spots but the idea is to stay under 2000 calories (even though fatsecret allows me 2500) and to only eat three meals a day. This is getting hard for me for the weekend because I start to forget to eat and then I am ravenous by the time I DO eat. It is a ridiculous concept, but one cannot POSSIBLY forget to EAT! It is harder for me to remember, and then actually remember to QUIT eating after eating enough. So I will try to be more mindful of that tomorrow. Anyway, thanks for listening. See ya!

Keep up the positive attitude! There's no sense beating yourself up over cake, unless it wasn't a tasty cake. LOL My doctor actually recommended to me that I eat more meals (5 or 6) a day, just smaller portions. Because I am at risk for diabetes, she advised me never to let myself go hungry -- when you do that it messes with your blood sugar (among other things) and that's when we start to get all those cravings. Not saying you should be doing the same thing, it's just "food for thought," so to speak. :) Another thing to try is when you get those hunger pangs, try drinking a glass of water. Wait 20-30 mins and if you still feel hungry, then have a small meal. The reason for this is that sometimes we confuse hunger with thirst -- if it turns out you were actually hungry, well, then there's water in your tummy and less room for food so you'll feel fuller faster!

Thanks BuffyBear!! Sorry it took me this long to thank you. I think you are doing great. I am gonna keep with you on this journey. I put on a lot of weight in the past few years, so I am looking to really work at getting it off. I need to look to myself and my higher power as the strength needed to keep on the straight and narrow road of recovery. I am going to give up sugar a little at a time. God bless and God be with us!

Giving up sugar and sweeteners can be difficult but it is definitely worth the effort. To be honest - I still struggle. But, like they say, "nothing worthwhile comes easy". Wishing you the best!
