CollyMP's Journal, 20 June 2013

Ok, I started on the newest challenge (10 pounds in a month) a bit early! Went walking with the hubs last night around the neighborhood ( I do have a fantastic neighborhood for walking, I have to say!). I'm going to weigh myself the day before the challenge starts, but I am going to stack the deck in my favor. No really salty meals, no booze, no soda, etc. in the next few days.

I did have a soda last night, and it's the first on in a long while, and honestly...I didn't much care for it. Kinda bleh. That was a nice feeling! I didn't refill it either! I had the one (small) drink and that was all.

I do need to keep more healthy snack foods in the house-spring mix salad, roasted or grilled chicken, cut up veggies and fruit. I will eat them if they are there, and the bonus is the family will also eat them if they are there. I think we all need to improve our snacking habits, though to be fair my son has improved a lot, and is no longer grazing all day.

This challenge came at exactly the right time too-the paycheck comes in tomorrow, I can do a good shop and fill the fridge with good stuff and get off to a great start.

If anyone reading this is unfamiliar-the challenge is, exercise half an hour five days a week, eat lots of veggies, and drink lots of water. I can totally do the veggies and the water, the exercise bit is going to be low-key but I am by gosh going to do it or die trying. That's my big bug-bear, right there, getting exercise. I have to take it easy on my joints or they incapacitate me and I can't do ANYTHING. I haven't got the time to not do anything, the house has to function. But-I can take moderate walks, and hopefully build up stamina to go a bit more briskly over time.

No matter what I do, I am still lapping everyone sitting on the couch, right? The little bit that I do is still more than doing nothing, and each tiny little thing does all add up over time to bigger things.

you've got the spunk, the spirit, the drive, the neighborhood and all of us backing you up and cheering you on! I'll try and give that a go myself. I love fruits and veggies and salads, Iced tea seems to be my new drink of choice, water makes me want to gag. Exercise?? hmmmm well, we have a very large dog now a pregnant shih-tzu and a few other dogs that could use walks when the weather is not gaggingly humid and hot. I'll give it a shot!!

See.. this is where I get confused... I'd think 'stacking the deck' would involve having a lot of sodium, etc., so you start out with water weight :-) guess that's why I'd never be a good criminal - I don't even know how to cheat right. I had a potato chip craving last night .. stupid tho - fell ASLEEP with them in my hand which meant I really didn't WANT them that bad but did that stop me? No.. woke up and still ate them... stupid stupid stupid.. ah well, another day :-)

LOL-I think you may be right Bella, I think I've got that backward! AND BLOODY WELL STOP CALLING YOURSELF STUPID!! I will not and cannot let my friends do that, sorry, it's a rule of mine (ask MissyAnne if you doubt it).

Bella.. ummmm ya might want to listen to her. She doesn't tolerate it and she will make it known just how much. YOU are not stupid at all. You THOUGHT you were craving something and you found out you weren't. You had them in your hand and made an other than wise decision about eating them or not.. but YOU .. aren't stupid.

The reason being is that I don't have any stupid friends-most of my friends are in fact well above average intelligence. They may do stupid things from time to time, like people do, but no, none of the folks I love are stupid, so you can't call yourself that.

Oh just saw that part of your post up there about iced tea-man I have totally been cravings that as well, we're going through gallons of the stuff! I picked up the 3 pack of family size boxes at Sam's a couple of weeks ago and I think I may get another one to get us through the summer, it's all I want to drink when it's really hot. The soda really has taken a back seat to it. RE exercise-we are going to be walking, and not power walking or brisk walking, we'll be walking at a strolling pace for the time being! My knees, hips, and feet can't take it, and my stupid fingers swell up like sausages as well. But doing SOMETHING is still better than doing NOTHING, right? I'm gonna keep telling myself that, anyway! LOL! About the neighborhood-it is, in fact, a designated walking route in the city, there are dozens of them with maps of the routes on the city website and how long they are. There's also a big park nearby with two other walking routes, one long, one short. All of these routes are self contained and don't cross any major roads or take you next to them either.
