Happy Father's Day! I am not a dad. (For those outside the USA it is Father's Day here). I visited my dad briefly last night. I started a high protein smoothie I will have daily. The taste is OK, not fantastic - in the future I will add fruit. And I will eat meat the other meals as high protein keeps one fuller and burns calories better. It may rain later today a bit, we had a very rainy spring, but I am glad as there won't be water rationing. The reservoirs are full. My back has been bothering me. I canceled my gym membership as my back is so bad that it is not worth it - mainly, I have trouble getting there. I may buy a cottage in the next year, I will live alone. I won't marry and drag in someone's kids (children or adult) - I might date but there is no way I am living with anyone else. No roommates, nobody. I have peace and quiet, and can write.

Hi Bren, I heard on your anniversary on the radio when I was in the car and a man said he had a great wife and it was the 39th anniversary, it was "Delilah" she is syndicated nationwide. I thought of you and your husband. As for me, I won't tolerate even roommates. People visit and stuff disappears, not often, but where I used to live, never to be found. I almost got married at age 19. I do not regret staying single. I am 51 on the 27th and I don't want to deal with as one woman put it, "a single woman your age who has four kids come home in a year and you're supporting their drug and alcohol habits." I got a military pension that had been denied before so I am set for life now. (They discharged me early, medically and finally honored it). I will buy a small house I hope in the next year. My dog is enough. Maybe a cat too when I move. My dog was raised with cats with her first owner. I have lost about six pounds in the past three weeks, which is a good sign, I will do a weigh-in soon. I am upping the protein - which fills one up longer and cutting the calories. My father is OK, retired and single. He has a Cadillac and a Lincoln, a small house, but he earned it. He is a loner. He did well for someone with a learning disability as he can hardly read, so I understand he was held back in life in many ways others don't understand. I just stopped by and talked to him fifteen minutes outside. I am his height and I look very much like him too, one can tell he is my father. He is the healthier of my two parents - better genetics plays a part as does keeping active.

Thanks Bren- It is a long time, but as one gets older - it is like... where did the time go. I was stationed in the Philippines 30 years ago. Life is not a long journey. The kids above me are brats born around 1990. We had more respect for our elders. Not all young 'uns are beastly, but I am glad I did not have kids my twin sister's three adult kids don't like me. My youngest niece is 14, she likes me but my brother-in-law is on drugs, drinking, cheating - for starters so my younger sister doesn't want me there. It is her life she is wasting. I have a new nephew and niece, 5 and 3, my twin sister just adopted them. I also have six surviving great nephews and nieces. My first published book will be dedicated to Joshua Jr. who passed from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. That niece has five other older kids, but it devastated her to lose the youngest one at three months. She will appreciate the other five more. Dogs do tie you down. But I like mine, and I think I will always have one now. Cows are low-maintenance, good thing you don't have to bag their messes... I will maybe board my dog for a week so I can go on a writer's retreat in the Berkshires this summer or fall. Or I may go camping with friends and she can go then. I am enjoying low cal high protein smoothies made with almond milk - they really fill one up and the calories aren't much. I have strawberry and vanilla for now. The strawberry needs real berries in it, actually all flavors could use fruit... have a good evening.

Awww Glenn if we lived closer I could take care of your sweet doggie..I used to take care of my sisters dogs if her and her daughter went on a school trip..I loved it..and the pups love me..when I go down for a visit they have to sleep with their Aunt Bren...LOL..Those smoothies sound delish..I would have to use almond milk too..real milk doesn't like me...:O)

My dog is great. I want to see if I can take her to someplace like a writer's retreat. I don't want to have to board her. I like cats too, but dogs are more social, many cats ignore their owners. A dog won't do that. The smoothies aren't that great, I will add fruit to them. I got some at GNC and it was very pricey, a bit less at Walmart - same type of additives. Someone on here recommended almond milk - only 30 calories to nonfat milk's 110 per cup. It too needs fruit added. The smoothies will be fine as soon as I blend some fruit in them, but they fill me up more than any food with the same amount of calories and the protein level is extremely high, which is good to lose weight and build lean muscle.
