Sherillynn's Journal, 23 May 2013

All week I have been working at cleaning up my rental house. It wasn't just dirty. It was filthy. I was just apalled and disappointed. It took 4 women 3 days to get it liveable again. We actually had to scrape excrement off the floor.

Several gallons of Kilz have been applied to those areas and the entire house has been painted, 2 windows replaced, siding repaired or replaced and now the outside is painted.

I thank God for the folks that came and helped me get this monster cleaned out. I could never have done it on my own. I was overwhelmed the first day but we just kept at it and it looks sparkling clean again. Those are the type of people that give renters a bad name.

On the bright side, I was able to get about 17 flights of stairs in each day, almost got to my 10K step goal each day and I haven't been off my diet. I am staying with my best friend again and she and her husband are on low carb so I really lucked out. I am very anxious to weigh myself when I get home.

I head back to Iowa tomorrow. There has been a lot of rain there so my husband hasn't even been able to get any of the corn planted. Its getting a bit stressful.

This house ordeal has been a big stressor on my heart. I feel so much better to have things turned around again. I really felt hurt by this too. I broke rule number one and rented to a friend. Ruined the house and ruined the friendship.

I am thankful for:
* good friends that aren't afraid to get their hands diirty
* good friends that cook low carb when you visit
* good friends that have great red wine that goes with my low carb lifestyle
* good friends that know your heart
* good friends that you can just pick up where you left off even if you haven't seen them in years.

I am so blessed with friends!

That's exactly why I never had any desire to enter the rental business. The horror stories I've heard over the years is nauseating. I don't understand how people can live like that.

I totally understand what you are going through. I have been in this business for over 30 years. I have seen it all, heard it all of why they can't pay their rent on time, and had them skip out on me!! Many times I wonder why I am still in the business, specially because I actually have another full-time job! But in the end, when all your hard work has gone into putting it back to being nice again you feel such an accomplishment and you hope for the best in the new tenants. My family has been a God send to me!!

I'm glad you had friends to help you out. Shame on those renters who took advantage of you! I'm glad things are on the upswing and I hope you get fabulous renters this next go around!

Thanks for all the support! I appreciate it more than you know. I never really planned on being in the rental business but when I got married, I couldn't get the house sold so I thought this would be a good option. Little did I know what I was getting into.
