HELP!!! What is going on with me? I started eating healthy and low cal almost 2 weeks ago. I lost 5 pounds right away but for the last 4 days I've gained. 2 lbs and 2 ounces. Every time I weigh I just know there will be a loss because I've done so good. No cheating what so ever. Yesterday's food intake was baked chicken with a bit of corn. Then low fat ham on whole wheat with lettuce, onion and a dab of light mayo. Dinner was a salad with light ranch. That is pretty much what I've been eating everyday. No snacks, no Pepsi, no sweets. It's not TOM either. I will be 50 in July so it's not pregnancy lol. This isn't working and I can't figure it out. I've done it before with great results.

If you're recording EVERYTHING you eat, then you're not eating enough. Try recalculating your RDI again, and generally don't go lower than 1200 on average. Calorie counting works.

I know I am not eating even close to 1200. I've dieted for most of my life so adding the calories in my head is pretty easy. I have not eaten anything bad for me at all. Although I've been tempted. I actually started with low carb then switched to low cal. So I'm wondering if that had anything to do with the gain.

Your body is fighting you because you aren't eating enough calories. I know that it is hard to believe that eating more will help you lose, but try it. Just get to your 1200 recommended calories per day with healthy food and watch it work :) Good luck to you!

You lost 5 than gained a couple, so you are still down 3 pounds (which is awesome). Weight loss is not linear. It can go up and down like a roller coaster. The most important thing is that over the weeks/months you have a mostly downward trend. Google "why the scale lies" for insight in to water weight. Yes, it's harder when you older but not impossible. Exercise can be your best friend. A combination of strength training/circuit training and cardio is great. Each year you will lose more and more muscle which will slow down your metabolism. So the strength training will add muscle to counter act that. It will also help fight gravity and keep everything in place. The cardio will burn fat, burn calories and keep your heart healthy. Get some fitness dvds (if you don't like gym). Jillian Michaels has some great 30 minute or less ones that kick your butt in to shape and are quick. But there are so many out there. Light hand weights and a mat are all your need. I would also recommend not going below 1200 a day either (it's impossible to get the nutrients your body needs if you do). If you exercise, take your measurements. The scale is only one way to measure weight loss. Remember it takes a lot of time and patience to lose weight and get in shape. Good luck!
