Any advice?

I've been trying to lose weight for over two years after a sudden gain of about 50 pounds and no matter what I do nothing works. My doctors have tested my thyroid but it's normal and they look at me like I'm lazy and recommend exercise. I was a highschool and college varsity athlete! I'm not a stranger to physical activity!! During this time nothing i did worked. I could exercise for hours and not lose a pound.. conversely I could eat nothing but fastfood and lay on the couch and still maintain the same weight.. incredibly frustrating!!!

In reality I think I'm a fairly healthy person. I eat a pretty reasonable diet, I live a somewhat active lifestyle. I don't drink to excess... but I want to lose weight and can't.

This weekend I worked over 16 hours in the restaurant and manage to gain a pound even though I busted my butt and avoided snacking and the really unhealthy foods!!! I wear a pedometer at work and both shifts I did approximately 14,000 steps, 5.15 miles, 600+ calories... I'm really frustrated at the lack of results.

I'm starting the fat challenge this week... I don't think my diet is full of high fat food, but I'm interested to see if maybe it's worse than I think... wish me luck people!!

The doctors said your thyroid was OK, but do you know what your numbers were? My family doctor said the same thing, but when I took my TSH number to an endocrinologist, I learned that the guidelines had changed in the past 10 years. Have you had your A1C and fasting glucose levels checked too? Just ideas, as they were the cornerstones of helping me find out why I was so heavy. If you'd like to buddy-up with me, I'll accept your request. :-) I started at 210 lbs, and I'm down 24 so far. :-)
