lots of carbs and eggs. If you want to increase calories stay off the carbs but add a couple of healthy snacks to your day. I saw in an earlier entry you were wondering why you were hungrier if you ate more? This is due to an increase in your metabolism. In other words the less you eat the more lethargic you become!

I am not going to cut carbs. If I drop my carbs I lose energy. When you eat more your metabolic rate does not increase outside of the thermic effect of food which is only about 10% of calories injested. Also I am gaining weight, yet another indication that my metabolic rate has not changed. I will agree that the less one eats the more lethargic they become( this is due to hormonal mechanisms). What I'm not understanding is why since I have increased my calories my energy seems to be lower. I also don't know why I am still very hungery all the time yet I am gaining weight. The average person's hunger would be reduced to defend against weight gain.

I had been a high-carb proponent for most my life. 2 months ago, I switched to a ketogenic diet for brain tumor , diabetes and sezure control. My hunger pangs , serum triglycerides and glucose luvels fell dramatically. I take Medium chain triglycerides before workouts and have sufficient energy during. Check out Dr. Peter Attia's blog for his take on ketogenic diets and exercise interplay. http://eatingacademy.com

I apologise for responding with out providing my experience. I have tried very low carb. i am not sure how low we are talking but it was in the rance of 20-40 grams a day of veggies and or nuts/seeds. I did this for probably 2-3 months. During that time my hunger was horrible, energy was very low, and I fell into a mild depression. I believe the low carb messed with my serotonin levels. Also around the time of doing the low carb, I developed a hunger issue that I am still trying to resolve. Here is my post on it. http://www.fatsecret.com/Community.aspx?pa=fp&t=94953

I agree with madjak, sounds like u r experiencing poster-child symptoms of hypo- diabetes just for grins what were your daily fat and protein intake during your low carb dieting?. I lowered my protein t0 50 gms or less to reduce glycogenesis. Helped reduce fasting serum glucose to low-normal and my 2 hr post eating glucose is falling too. BP is falling too. I believe I became carb-insulin-resistant. 2 yrs ago I scoffed at the high fat proponents. I know n=1, but something is working for me.

Protein was averaging around 140 and fat was 100. There was nothing specific I was followng at the time. I can only hope I don't have diabetes. I will find out soon. Thanks,
