FullaBella's Journal, 28 March 2013

It's official. Call the dogs & put out the fire - this gal is done. I've lived too long and just can't take it anymore.

My cell phone store refused CASH this afternoon. Yes, you read that right. I'd gone to purchase MH a new phone and they refused good old green US federal reserve MONEY. What is this world coming to? YES, I came home and ordered it online as I already have my bill set up to pay with my credit card and NO it doesn't make sense that I'll do that but not use my credit card in the store but I manage my bills by paying as I go as much as possible and by golly this is the USA when did CASH become an unacceptable form of payment??

I'd already stood there for at least five minutes tolerating the most INANE display of unprofessionalism I'd seen in a long while. One of the guys had returned from a Starbucks run with a huge mochacrappacino thing and the other guy from the back came out and in the middle of our business transactions interrupted and started begging for HIS break so he could go make a 'bucks run'. The sales person waiting on me was obviously in charge of him as she made the final decision in the negotiations. I just shook my head. She asked 'what?' and I said 'I can't believe what I just saw. Even my grandson knows 'Never interrupt BUSINESS!'

Next - grocery store. Checking out the clerk noted my selection of multiple bottles of mint water and asked 'are these any good?' Now, this isn't like I'd just bought a 12 pack of beer, soda, or donuts, all encased in a single 'gathering'. This is 12 individual bottles of varying flavors picked off the shelf ONE BY ONE. I squelched my desire to say something snarky and replied 'Gee, I hope so.' But the guy in the line behind me couldn't contain himself. "Well, obviously they are for her to pick out that many..."

I get the whole 'chat up the customer' thing ~ but ... duh!

Grand Prize though? Returning home I asked my grandsons to bring in my groceries and while they were doing so I was standing w/MH's old phone in my hand gesturing as I did my 'can you believe the no cash' old lady rant to my StepDaughter. My grandson walked up, saw the phone and asked..

Wait for it...

'Hey, Nana, did you get a new phone?'

That's it. Lock the door. Shut the lights. I'm outta here.

I know that while you were having your trials today you probably couldnt see the humor in it but to hear you describe it has made me laugh so hard I nearly wet myself. Thank you for sharing your hysterical afternoon with us

@Kimmy - Oh, I saw the humor. I grew up on Reader's Digest philosophy that 'laughter is the best medicine' so I always try to find something funny about the inane moments. Glad you enjoyed them too. Now go change your undies :-)

Service is just not what it used to be. That's for sure. I am finding that in the South it is worse than I have ever seen. A great customer oriented business could make a fortune right now. Happy Friday Bella!

LOL! I love that you can take a day of VERY frustrating people and see the humour in it all. Awesome! 😊

http://youtu.be/Yvj_acGhbPk - your journal reminded me SO much of this. Especially the "You got a new phone" part.

I am sooo glad I stopped by here as this is soo how I feel sometimes.. There was a time when we did not have a charge card..cash was the only way..or check..they don't like for you to use those either..Some of the people we have to deal with these days are sooo un professional..and you wonder what is next..LOL about the new phone..gotta love them..Enjoy your day girl..keep on making our lives sooo enjoyable...:O)

I always feel old when I think to myself "people are so inconsiderate"... but I think it all the time. Professionalism is hard to come by in a lot of places. Glad you got a laugh out of your day at least!

I knew the day was coming where cash would become obsolete, but its sad to see it.

Wow. There's something scary about handing over the reins for public service to the younger generation - those raised by their overindulgent parents and made to believe the world not only revolves around them but owes them something, to boot. Most of them can't be bothered trying to get an education but then are resentful that the only job they can get is minimum wage. We're all doomed! Anyway, glad you were able to keep your funny bone intact. That's the only thing between me and committing a serious crime sometimes!!!

Hehehe...like when I put my jicama on the belt to check out at Whole Paycheck and they have to ask what it is? Is there any training out there anymore? Glad you called out the boss at the phone store for the interruption. Hope your day is going better. I'm having a hard time keeping my eyes open. Think I'll head to the resale store to sell my 14, 16 and 18's. Wonder what rudeness I will be greeted with there? Maybe I will record my experience by leaving my phone video on. :)

Yep, it is indeed scary. I try to reflect on myself when I was in my '20s' and wonder if the folks in their 50's thought I was a complete nitwit too. Were they as afraid then as we are now? Did I really have that much more of a work ethic then than generations today? Thanks for the link Keld - I didn't even think of the 'Here's your Sign' reaction yesterday. When I was preparing to GO to the phone store MH's lecture included 'do NOT let them upset you' because experience has been they ARE ... upsetting. So it was like a challenge. A test. I was actually laughing in the store 'I swore to my husband I wouldn't let you upset me' and I was looking around the room. The clerk asked 'what are you looking for' and I responded 'seriously... where's the Candid Camera?" When she asked 'the What???' (( indicating I'm so dang old even the jokes don't make sense )) I just laughed harder, shook my head, thanked the young lady and dialed Mh on the way out the store.... "Babe, you aren't gonna believe THIS! They won't take Cash... Seriously... I'm not kidding... ((I stood there for a few seconds just so they could hear how absurd they were )) "Yeah... I'm still in town.. Yep... still in America... Yep... I even tried to give her exact change... nope... I'm not kidding... Honey...stop cussing.... " I departed the phone store with 'Y'all have a Good 'Un ... ya hear?' Shaking head.

I think the modern equivalent of Candid Camera is "getting Punk'd" (ya, they're so lazy, they leave out the "e").

Darn Neptune - I'd just commented yesterday 'this would NEVER happen at Whole Foods' (after the water comment at the grocer) because MY experiences there have always been above board stellar. That's sad. Ok Evelyn.. we're no longer candid, we're Punk'd. Got it. Last night online chat when ordering the phone I mentioned the 'no cash' situation - response was 'we aren't responsible for the individual stores.' ANd YES .. I know.. I could always go to a prepay or another provider.. that's MH's barrier to change and *I* have to accept it, buck up, laugh it off and move on :-) Another day.

I'm starting to think that only home-schooled kids know anything. And 9 times out of 10 they're also learning a work ethic while they're at it...God help us, it IS a scary world we live in!

We don't use any charge cards...don't have any. We use cash or the debit card only. If I go to a store that doesn't accept cash, then I don't shop there. I would think that they would prefer sash as there is a charge to the company for each transaction on a charge card or debit card. Good for you for refusing to do business there!!! :) Have a blessed Easter!

Oh, and I wanted to say, perhaps the reason they don't take cash is with credit or debit only they don't have to worry about the employees stealing or making change! :/

Baxie, I know quite a few home schooled kids...there are some that are excellent, and there are some that aren't, much like in the public and private school districts. I know 4 right now that can only do basic math...their mom and teacher are worried they won't pass the exams to graduate from high school...the oldest is 17 right now.
