RubyRedSox's Journal, 26 March 2013

I woke up at 5:30 this morning. Too early for me but maybe I can get a headstart on my pain issues. My fasting blood sugars stay under 100 and my after meals stay close to 125 most days so I'm good there.

With the cost of food rising though these last months, I've had to add some foods back in that I otherwise wouldn't be eating. It's a tough battle for those of us on a tight budget. We have only 2 small grocery stores in town so that's where I have to shop. You'd think that prices would be more fair being there are farms in the area. We even have a fish hatchery but fresh fish is out of my budget here and the only frozen fish is all breaded. Yup, this is high carb/low fat country so if I want full fat yogurt I have to make it myself lol. Thank goodness they sell real butter at least.

So I'm back at the same apartment complex, just a different apartment. Since I've been gone that year and a half, 2 people I have known have passed away. A few others had moved but several here I remember and all of us are looking forward to the warm weather. Most everyone here are in their 70's or older though maybe a quarter are still in their 60's. My best friend is in her mid 60's and she can't drive either so we're both challenged that way.

I can get a monthly food box but again, it's 90% high carb/white flour and the extra carby and sugary foods are hard to get rid of. I got the box when I lived here before and there was some good stuff but since I'm unable to pick and choose, I'm thinking I won't bother with it.

I've been doing really well with my fitbit this week. Getting in over 9000 steps most days which is excellent for me. Though the more I do the more pain and sleep issues I have. Which is another thing, I need to find a doctor (again) lol. With my other health issues, all my joints are really complaining too. You know it'd really bite to work so hard to get out of that walker I have to only end up back in it. I still have it in the back of my closet as they're too expensive to replace. Even so, I really hate that thing. I'm only 56 so I could have another 20 years left. Kinda scary when I think of it. Especially with what I'm hearing, that low income housing might be phased out or that's the rumor I heard.

Ok, I'm rambling... I'm still getting use to the quiet of being alone again. Having my cat, Bella really helps but sometimes I get chatty anyway :D

Wishing you all a very super day!

Hey, Dianna! So glad to see you back here. Sorry you are having such pain issues though. I have been saying for years that the cheap foods are the ones that are the worst for your health. Hope your pain gets better, and that walker stays in the back of the closet! Hugs!!

Happy for you as you get settled into your own home. I hope that your pain gets better soon. I totally agree with you on the high cost of whole foods.
