Sure wish I could take credit for this; I can't. But reflecting on my toddler journals of the past couple of weeks it touched me to find this site today and read someone else shared my theory.

She’s the older, wiser YOU. And her wisdom goes something like this..

If it’s physical weight you wish to release, you must first release the weight on your heart. You must unburden your body of unprocessed shame, guilt, worry, judgement, sorrow and sadness. You must stop living your life in fear and start living your life in love.

As soon as you “lighten-up” your mind, your body will follow.

In order to do this, you must stop giving food a power it does not have. Food can not heal a broken heart. Food can not ease the pain of loss or rejection. Food can not wrap warm arms around you and hold you tight. Food can not remove the fears of stepping into uncharted territory. Food can not give you confidence or boost your self-esteem. Food is neutral.

Emotional eaters often have a difficult time processing emotion – which is why they turn to food. But, food can not process emotion for you – it can simply give you temporary relief from the heaviness on your heart.

It’s crucial that you honor the part of you – the troubled child – who binges on a box of cookies for diner instead of eating her sweet potato and baked chicken.

She simply wants to be heard. It’s damn time you stopped ignoring her and started to listen.

What she has to say might not be that difficult after all. But, when you ignore her – she feels abandoned, disowned, rejected, and throws a massive temper tantrum of the likes of 40 extra pounds, until you’re finally willing to meet her face-to-face.

Another diet or cleanse or fast will not help you release the emotional burdens manifested as a physical force field between you and the rest of the world.

Fear is not a fat loss plan.

Only love can help you dissolve this barrier. And just as food can not heal your emotional wounds, neither can losing weight. This is the illusion that keeps you believing you simply haven’t found that miracle diet. On the contrary, it is the miracle mindset and healing those wounds that allows for a permanent shift if your physiology.

My darling — if it’s “fast fat loss” you’re looking for, it’s time to stop ignoring the troubled child within. She has a message for you and the messenger never rests, until the message is received.

Baxie and Colly. - thank you but it's not me - I explained in the beginning it's from Erin Huggins. I'd been googling images to find something that reflected 'serene eating' to change my avatar and came across her site. The posts are amazing - esp the one about losing weight using both sides of our brains. I still love FS but her articles are inspiring.

I love that article and agree with it but how do I get in touch with this child? I know that negative emotions trigger binges but I don't know exactly what it is I'm missing from my life or what sort of phsycological trauma I have to deal with.

Lady - I'm sure it's different for everyone - there was another article there that spoke to the harder to acknowledge reasons behind the weight gain. Colly - I'll add a 'line' to mark the end of my intro and beginning of my copy/paste - as much as I would love the credit it would be wrong :0)

My favorite parts of this! And that is what we are all here for on FS! BUT, My inner child is a mute. I CAN'T HEAR YOU! Now, the article needds to continue discussing constructive ways of how to find that inner YOU/ME, Thanks... I think i found her, but she is like a puppy that doesn't know who mamma is yet:-)

Love that post -- it so applies & speaks to me! I never heard of Erin Huggins but just went on her web site & read some other great articles by her. And, of course, I had to sign up for her newsletter. Do u or does anyone know anything about her "sugar smack down"?

What a great article. I can see how it goes hand in hand with your inner toddler. Essentially the same thing. I think it's SO important for us to do this. I tend to go more scientifically at it, but I also know that if I don't listen to my toddler, then I can be as scientific as I want, it will won't help. I'll just screwing up, or at least feel like I am. Thanks again for opening our eyes on this. We are many who need these reminders.

Absolutely fabulous and very timely Bella. Just what you had discovered for yourself. The essence of the words will mean so much more to you on your journey because you discovered them rather than read them. Reading them is also powerful but you had already reached the same conclusion. Wishing you and your toddler an easy, sane day.

Thanks for the introduction, Bella. For me, the best way to get in touch with that inner child or the older, wiser me, is to just spend time with me. It's not unlike gaining the trust of a youngster who is walking around outside of you. They don't just come up and start spelling things out for you. Even the most trusting and loving of children will still be speaking their own language for a while and you must learn to speak that. Spending time just doodling or coloring or walking or laughing or watching cartoons or snuggling, and then, there she is, telling you a secret or coming to you for help and yelling fearlessly that she needs you. That's been my experience.

Wow, I have to go check out her website! Thank you for sharing this! I just woke up from a dream in which I was participating in a Hunger Games Challenge, wishing someone would deliver her baby so I could "go apesh*t eating chocolates " as I said to a fellow participant while riding on a big yellow bus; all sorts of weird hidden messages in that one!
