Carlys Mom's Journal, 22 March 2013

I'll quote my pal, Kat Stubblefield here, "no excuses, just results." I was all geared up to get back to the business of tracking and counting, getting the carbs back to around 50 when an absessed tooth and resulting root canal fell on me like a ton of bricks. I ended up having to eat lots of soup this week, making tracking difficult. Had the root canal yesterday, so things should be getting back to normal. So here I am, up about 10 pounds, which is not surprising. I hate to think that this is a lifelong endeavor (I've avoided saying struggle or battle), but it looks like I'll be engaged in monitoring my weight forever. This is interesting because no one else in my family does. My dad claims he did when he was younger, but most everyone seems to have been the same size their entire lives. At any rate, I have to play the hand I was as excuses, just results.

Oh snap, I got a shout out in your journal! I feel so honored, lol. There's a difference between "excuses" and "reasons." Dental issues are a valid reason to eat differently for a while. Don't let yourself get caught up in the unfairness of it all because it's easy to do that - I tend to do it whenever I hear a story of someone who lost weight faster than I did. And don't project into the future either, having to do something forever sounds torturous, but doing something just for today is something you can handle. I have to remind myself of this all the time...especially when I saw myself in the pics from my race last weekend...ugh. But I posted them on FB anyway. Let's do what we can today and deal with tomorrow tomorrow girl.

Yea, I know, Kat. I was just so ready to get rolling. Here's the best part...the abscessed tooth popped up at mile 10 of my last half marathon, I cried every step from mile 10 to mile 13.2.! Here's to a better week!
