Hot dog! I knew you could do it! You have made it and are stable now under 200!! WHOOT! Keep up the faith!

Keepin' the faith and keeping up the good work! The spousal unit asked me this morning, as he looked at my food at Waffle House, if I was playing Moses, as I'd split my hash browns and waffle both down the middle. LOL-I told him that it was a lot easier to eat half if you already had it measured out before you started eating. He's even considering joining FS as well!

Well done Moses!! You parted the breakfast Special and recruited another to the tribe!

LOL! I may have-we shall see!

AWESOME girl. I'm so proud of you and you should be of yourself. Moses.. I love it. I never thought of that but I've not been out to eat recently. I will defintely keep that in mind for my next foray into the wilds of the restaurant world. Love you!!!! HUGS!

Love you too darling! I have found that nearly every restaurant has nutrition information online-you can easily figure out exactly what you want to eat, calorie wise, ahead of time. Barring last minute changes of plan this generally works. But yes, splitting it in half before you even take a bite works really well, most restaurants give you far more food than you need for one meal. If I'm still hungry after eating half, I very mindfully eat more, but the moment it starts going from yummy to "meh" I stop. Normally, however, it's quite enough and sometimes too much. Believe me, this is definitely a NEW habit, because until recently I wanted to eat everything so as not to waste my money! I've decided it's better to waste the money than to gain weight, it'll cost me alot less in medical bills in the long run.

Very smart girl you are. In my case I can take the other 1/2 and have it for lunch at work the next day. 2 meals for 1 price.

Exactly! Not everything reheats well but a lot of things are surprisingly nice reheated. Also-some places will let you order off the lunch menu for a dinner entree. You just have to ask. One of the Mexican food places we like will happily do that.

My downfall is that I love breakfast and it doesn't matter what time of day or night. I just LOVE breakfast foods. Mike and I really enjoy Mexican food also.

But even with those you can, over time, chip away at the amounts and the fat content, and add fresh fruit and whole grain. Eggs are not all that bad to begin with, and if you use only one egg yolk in your 2 or 3 scrambled eggs, the calorie and fat content goes down by miles-I like them with mushrooms and spinach, with some tomatoes if they're in season. You are already ahead of the game because you enjoy oatmeal. Mike and the Bug both enjoy it also-me, that's one of those things I will have once or twice a year, at best. I just don't care for it all that much. I do like poached or "fried" (doesn't really count as frying if it's in a nonstick pan, does it?), soft yolks, with toast or an English muffin, and ham or Canadian bacon. I'm not big on cereal, but sometimes that's exactly what I want, and even then I am a whole grain girl. Great Grains, mini-wheats,etc. No idea how or why I got the taste for whole grains, but I do love them. I get sugar free syrup when we eat out simply because that's what Mike is having. I have it at home sometimes too, but again, my yearning for waffles or pancakes is rare. I like it salty and crunchy!

You've always been the salty crunchy one. I love Over medium (I'm a yoke person) I detest the whites, yeah I know.. BAD ME.. BAD!! I love English Muffins and am not a fan of anything whole wheat. H,,, could this be my main reason for being so fat?? LOL

Nope-there is no such thing as "bad" food. There are foods that are better for you, and there are foods that should only be special occasion treats. But I refuse to concede that food is "bad" unless it truly TASTES bad. I would still rather have a perfect bite of a fabulous dessert than a dozen rice cakes-because I don't like rice cakes and because if I just go ahead and have a small amount of the dessert I'm a lot less likely to eat everything in the kitchen, wishing I could have dessert. So, no forbidden foods. You CAN change your way of eating but I strongly discourage trying to change everything all at once. The more sensible way is to ADD to what you eat-make a decision to eat fresh fruit or some cut up veggies (steamed or raw) or salad with each meal. I like pickles instead of potato chips-not that I don't LOVE potato chips, but pickles have so few calories they barely register. I get the salty crunch, and the only down side is the salt. I don't get all the fat and calories from chips, AND the pickles satisfy the cravings and make me feel full longer because they have so much water in them. It just takes time to 1) get used to eating differently, and again, I wouldn't ever say it's a good idea to change every single thing at once, and 2) learn to make substitutions of foods you know you like but that have fewer fat and calories. Like I said, nothing wrong with enjoying your food, but some things really should be in moderation. The biggest problem is that this is not a "moderation" kind of country-portions are huge and everyone is encouraged to "upsize". We are presented with far more food and in far larger quantities than any of us need.

BTW-English muffins? SO low fat! Some of them don't have ANY, and I have yet to see one that tops 130 calories. SEE?! There is a low-fat, low-cal food that you LOVE! You love ham, too, right? Pile some ham on that sucker! Ham, also, has little fat. Throw a slice of cheese on there too, if you want one, shove it in the toaster oven and get it all nice and brown, and slice up some strawberries to enjoy with it, and maybe a small glass of milk. There's a breakfast that'll keep you going. If you want to make it look like more, do the English muffin halves side by side, and split the cheese between them.

I Wholeheartedly agree. Mike and I don't order from the 'meal' section of a fast food menu. We order from the $1 menu and that is usually a smaller portion of whatever the 'meal' comes with. So instead or 'large' or SS we get small fries if we choose them and a smaller burger or whatever, including soda is we so choose. Now, when I get chinese, I'm screwed.. LOL
18 Mar 13 by member: MissyAnn63
That's really smart to do it that way-see, look at you, little changes, over time. You are DOING it! It's not something you "need to do" anymore, it is something you are DOING! YAY! I had an IBC cream soda yesterday, it was SO yummy, and I enjoyed the heck out of it! Several of the Chinese places here will add extra vegetables to your meal if you ask, or you can just get the vegetables as a side order and mix them in with your food. I LOVE fries, so when I want fries I get a small one (like you) and I tell them "no salt". They have to make them fresh then! LOL! By gosh if I'm going to have deep fried potatoes I want them in tip top condition!

It's a damned good thing I don't like cheese on my sandwiches. I'm very picky with cheese. Ham on an English Muffin.. Oh HELL YEAH!!! Hold the cheese please.

Sometimes I like it, sometimes not-I love ham with an English muffin too, one of my faves (have you had Sarah Lee brown sugar baked ham from the deli? OMG! It is WONDERFUL.) And yes, it IS a good thing you don't like cheese on a sandwich-I love it, so I have to really watch myself and portion it out VERY carefully!

(that is supposed to say sometimes I like ham with cheese, sometimes not)
