FullaBella's Journal, 14 March 2013

Ugh - the older I get, the less control I seem have over my mouth. Hence why I am here at FS - trying to control what I put IN it while the rest of my day I try to control what comes OUT of it. All I can conclude from the following experience is now I know why Don Rickles is still around.

I have signs posted throughout my store displaying 'no hands in pockets' but I am going to have to tweak them because even though there is a picture of a person with their hands in pockets and the universal big red 'no-no' circle & bar over the image for anyone who can't read English, some people will look at the sign and react by purposely shoving their hands into their pockets. It's as if the brain can only process the image but not the 'NO'. Weird.

Oh well, I've always said the human mind is my favorite playground. Much like telling ourselves 'I will not eat the Girl Scout Cookies' the brain only saw 'Cookies'.

Anyway, a man was in my earlier store with his wife & two young daughters and he read the sign and automatically did the pocket shove thing. I could tell by the 'fashionably tight jeans' that was 'all' he had in the pockets but to avoid some 'other' person coming back at me with a discrimination accusation I have to tell EVERYONE 'while you're in my store, I ask that you please remove your hands from your pockets'.

Most of the time the customer apologizes and removes their hands from their pockets. Some will look shocked, some will behave as if they are offended, and some start emptying their pockets. I tell them 'Stop, you don't have to take anything OUT, just don't put anything IN either.'

The guy this morning, though gave me a 'really... me?' look as he glanced at his wife and children but before I could stop myself I said:

'Yeah yeah, I know.. you're a family.. but so were the Mansons.'

Where in the world did THAT come from?

At THAT point I was able to clamp my mouth shut and stood, wide eyed, waiting for his ranting response. But apparently I had a closet masochist in the midst as he just chuckled and spent a heck of a lot of money with me.

God Bless ya Mr. Rickles; you paved the way for mouthy Bella's everywhere.

Thanks for reading,

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Oh Bella, I love you so! Clearly we were separated at birth, for I completely lack any filtering equipment of any kind that prevents whatever pops into my mind from shooting directly out of my mouth !

Blahhhhh !! Too funny Bella ! I actually find that the older I get the more I get away with saying !! It's kinda nice considering I have no filter either !!

Ditto - I think it I say it. But I have to admit that when I started reading this journal I shoved my hands in my pockets. :)

I had a urge to put my hands in my pockets too. lol I lost my filter but then I stopped sleeping so now I can't form complete sentences so I'm pretty sure everyone around me just thinks I have turets now. Filterless people are more interesting.

LOL-my son actually has Tourette's, it can be wildly entertaining! I do love people without filters, some of my best friends are entirely socially unacceptable. Can't take 'em anywhere twice unless it's to apologize for how they behaved the first time.

Like when I was at Whole Foods the other day and this "well to do" looking woman was with her kids and she stuck her hand in the bowl of crackers and just grabbed the cheese or whatever it was with her hands - ignoring the toothpick and I just had to make the loud comment "REALLY" when I walked by. DH always wants to crawl in a whole.

MH has long said he has no idea why I'm still walking the earth considering the things I say to people. His lament is 'some day you're gonna pop off to the wrong person and it'll be lights out!' I'm sure my response to his predictions are equally irreverant but right now I can't think for the hold music blaring in my head ... and I'm no longer on the phone anymore. Shutting the lights and heading out for some sun & serenity. I meet with a Lawyer in the morning to work on my SSN# theft part. Right now I'm wondering what I'd have achieved this week if I'd not been mopping up this mess.
