i finally get back on my feet and saturday the stove blows up...we went to a pig roast around 3:30ish and when we got home at 8:30 the whole kitchen was hot and the back of the oven was burnt black...

apparently if you have an electronic control panel they can short and turn on the oven/burners by itself...if we had been on vacation our house would have burnt down...

i have a small hot plate to cook with this week while we try to buy another one...go figure...

Thank God you are alright. So sorry about that. It's always something isn't it? I have never heard of that before. That certainly doesn't sound safe.

Sorry to hear that Veggies, it could have been a lot worse. Some of those stoves have a warranty which cover manufacturing defects. That would definitely sound like a defective stove to me.

info...the stove is 6 years old...and whirlpool knows about the problem and if you want to fix it they will send you the parts but you have to pay to have them installed...we talked to 2 repair men and it does happen..not often...i was scared *&^&less...the dogs were inside, they could have died...the house was over 90 degrees...

OH my.... *goose bumps*, how very scary! So glad that the house and dogs are ok... small blessings. Wow. I am so making hubby replace my relic next year!! I hate my ancient stove top and oven, and this a good excuse as to why I "need" to. So... a new stove in order, that is good! :) Let me know what you decide on and find out... I'll be interested to hear what you find out. Have great day... sorry for the troubles of dealing with the mess.

And Whirlpool no less! How terrible. In the meantime you can try one of Bully's crock pot recipes. I am so sorry that that happened to you!

Praise God your animals and house are okay! My husband gives me a hard time about double checking and triple checking things before we leave the house...I don't even like to leave the fan running when we're gone. You never know! Just glad it wasn't worse! =) Keep smilin'!

a repair man told me that about every 6 months i should take the back off of the stove and make sure that the wires and control panels are not looking brown or melting...he said that this happens enough that there should be a warning on these stoves...go figure...i will definately be checking the new one every so often..
