Today, I got some bad news, which has me facing a dilemma, at the worst time possible. I wish the situation hadn't come up, but I know how it's going to end. My brother, and his wife, went to a Chinese restaurant, in Windsor, Canada, that my family has been going to, since we were kids, and I'm talking at least 45 years. It turns out, that it will be closing it's doors, for good, by the end of this month. The food there is awesome, or at least we think so; and it would be a shame to not go there; one last time, before it does. My problem is, I've been doing great, this week, having just gotten back on track with my low carb eating. I'm not a person to go to the casinos, I don't gamble, so after the restaurant closes, unless I head up to Canada to visit some friends and relatives, I won't have any reason to cross the border. I wish they'd waited, another year or so, after I'd reached my goal weight; that way it wouldn't be a dilemma at all. Oh well, I won't lose my resolve, I'll enjoy it one last time, and get back on track, next week, as we've decided to go, this Saturday, the day before my mom's birthday. :-) Not many restaurants stay in business that long, serving such good food, but I guess nothing lasts forever. That place is the, gold, standard by which I judge all Chinese restaurants; outside of the great ones in Montreal's China Town, and it will be missed. :-(

Oh I know what you mean..our favorite BBQ is going out of business as well..they are the best..but I liked the fact that they didn't put the sauce on the pork..but put in a container and you could use it or not..I barely put any on mine..so they will be missed also..I feel for you buddy..I know how hard it is to get back on track...But I know you can do it..Your strong...:O)

Thanks, I can do it, I just wish this wasn't happening right when I just got back on track, with the weight coming off. :-)

Can't you order carefully & keep to the basics - meat and vegetables - without rice, dumplings etc. Practice eating as if you were on maintenance.

I think Buffy has a good point, but it will be hard to do, as you love their food so much. You can do it though and avoid feeling bad afterwards. It is so hard to get back on track as we seem to always have a trip-up somewhere. Tonight at our home fellowship someone is bringing lumpia (love those Philipine egg rolls). I will have to be so careful. The same lady is having a birthday. As we have several diabetics there, Jim and I will bring sugar free angel food cake and strawberries for her "birthday cake" with whipped cream. I am having a hard time getting back to the first things....all the best to you :)

Thanks for the suggestions ladies, but though I may be able to practice eating as though I was on maintenance, at the buffet restaurant my siblings and I go to, I, honestly, don't see it happening tomorrow. There's too much history between that restaurant, and my family, and I'll never be able to get their food again. However, today, I did say no, to the offer of chocolate covered doughnuts, and a desire to stop and get a pizza, on the way home from work today; thus, there is some hope for my willpower, but not tomorrow. I won't be beating myself up about it either, as I would feel worse, for the missed opportunity, especially because, I lived on the West Coast for so many years, and that I've only eaten there twice, since moving back to this area. I never considered, they would be closing, so there was no sense of urgency, especially since I was living a low carb lifestyle, with very few lapses. Like you Gigi, lumpia is a favorite treat for me too, as I love Filipeno food. Before leaving California, I would frequent a Filipeno restaurant that was five minutes from my apartment, but then again I love a lot of different ethnic foods.

And the verdict is.................... It was worth every bite!!! We brought it back to the house, split it up, and savored every morsel, while sharing fond memories, of the many holidays, and special occasions our family spent at that restaurant. They'd given us a 10% discount, for paying with cash, and upon asking, three sets of their chop sticks as souvineers, and not the wooden ones you usually get with take out orders, the plastic ones; okay so they were only plastic, but still the ones we'd have used, if we sat in there to eat with, in the dining area. It turns out, the old man, father of the family, who opened the restaurant, about 50 years ago, died within the last year; so the family decided to call it quits. We said our good-byes, and having had one last great meal from there, will still miss it, but won't feel cheated out of the opportunity to do so. The "House of Lee", was certainly one of the best, and I've eaten a lot of Chinese food, in my time. :-)
