Shelly25's Journal, 05 March 2013

Hey everybody, how are you?? I miss you all!! I recently started a new job where I stand on my feet for at least 8 hours per day. I am wondering if anybody has advice about working out in addition to having a physical job. It can be quite painful after standing all day to work out. I am not trying to make excuses. I will force myself to keep up with my routine, but I was wondering if anybody has some advice for me. What can I do to alleviate the pain while trying to achieve my fitness goals?? I know that I need to invest in a proper pair of sneakers of work boots with plenty of arch support, but I was wondering if there is something else that I can do?? It's great to be back on the website and talking with everybody. Take care, everybody!! Have a beee-A-utiful day!! :D

It's kind of like a big circle. Working out makes your muscle stronger and helps you lose weight. Which in turn makes you lighter and makes standing on your feet easier. Good shoes are important. Depending on what time you start work, a 30 minute workout 3x a week before you go to work might be good. A strength training dvd/circuit training might be the way to go. Jillian Michaels has a bunch that kick your but in to shape and are short (30 day shred). Look on Amazon at reviews or Biking or swimming are not hard on the body. The eliptical is also good cardio. You also have the weekends (unless you work) to get some workouts in. You may need to try different things till you find what fits in to your life. But working out will really help you have more energy for your job (it may take a few weeks to get used to it though). Good luck!

Thank you so much, Suzi!! This is just the response I was looking for!! I really enjoy working out. I am still a bit heavyset so I am trying to at least lose a good 50 pounds. I lost weight and I am about a size 16. I know that working out would help me greatly with working a physical job though. I think that my body needs to adapt to everything. I just want to do it all :) Thanks for your commentary. I will definitely take your advice and continue on with whatever works.

If at all possible, try to prop at least one foot when standing - it helps take the pressure off your lower back and will alleviate that tired drained feeling at the end of the day. If you can do it without being a distraction, pacing seems to keep the circulation moving better (for me) than standing completely still. Hope that helps!
