anarakh's Journal, 03 March 2013

Hi. 3rd of March and I decided to put a bio on Fatsecrect. (TRIED to put this in Bio - does not register. Now I will try and put it on Journal)

I am from South Africa 44 years old. I have been a healthy weight up to 18 years old. (around 60 kg on 1.75 cm length). The year after finishing school I went to the US for a gap year with a friend and gained 15 kgs in 3 months. I literally ballooned that I had stretch marks similar to someone that got pregnant.
When i got back after the year my mom marched me to Weigh less and I lost most of the weight in the 3 months before University starterd. I lost the rest in my first year and was back at 60-65 kg where I was fine. This stayed the same till I got married at 27 and weighed 67kg. Gained about a kilo a year after getting married.
Got my first and second son at 34 and 36 and never lost my weight after any of the pregnancies. I tried to lose weight with Weigh Less again, Calorie counting etc, but not very enthusiastically as I am very happy with myself and my life.
My normal pattern is that I restrict myself in some way - calorie counting, no bread, counting points or similiar. It goes well for 4 weeks. I normallhy loose a 2 or 3 kilos. After 4 weeks I stop loosing weight and start "cheating" and gain everything back. Then it takes me months to get the emotional energy together to try again.
For the last 3 years I have done nothing special - just eat what I considered healtht and gained another 6 kgs. I used to joke that I have the healthiest fat on earth. I am eating lots of salad, ww bread, chicken, tons of fruit, oats for breakfast. My only "sin" is full cream milk in my coffee. Cannot stand low fat milk and I LOVE coffee.

Fast forward to Nov 2012. First a friend at work told us how his brother lost 15 kgs on Atkins and 8 year later he is still not eating carbs and kept the weight off. I just thought I cannot picture my life without bread (and coffee!). Pasta and potatoes I can live withouth - but bread?? Never.

Then I heard Prof Tim Noakes from South Africa talk about carbs (http://youtu.be/Bsx72V4IpJY). Next I saw a low carb bread (made from Almond flour) that you can buy in pharmacies in South Africa. I bought 8 slices of the bread and thought I will try "my Atkins" for Nov. I lost 3 kgs in 4 weeks and with a slice of bread every day or 2nd day - I did not feel to bad. Biggest suprise was that I could live without fruit. I ate tons of fruit on my healthy diet:)

I read more and more about carbs specifically and found the following 3 sites/videos:
Wheat belly: http://youtu.be/WSDkJEF9aBY
Andreas Eenfeldt: the Dietdoctor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSeSTq-N4U4&feature=share&list=SP9E35F689C3F67D03
Dr Lustig: Sugar the bitter truth. But here is "The cause of obesity" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8dWNbEscOw&feature=share&list=SP9E35F689C3F67D03

Rest of my bio disapeared and I am not going to re-type it now. Lost 2 more kilos in Dec. Total loss of 5. THen nothing. Help please:)
