Week 1 / Day 2 of Couch to 10k - was harder for me to get my head in it today because I was so distracted with DD.

She came home this morning very upset...a resident fell on her shift. Now I have to say that I have an issue with the poor management and I think it is a shame that people should have to worry about putting their loved ones into a facility that even if the caregivers care they do not have proper support. The management fired someone and that left my daughter working 3 FLOORS alone!!!! Can you believe that?? One person trying to work three floors of residents. So daughter made her round on the first floor and this gentleman was sleeping. She was on the third floor making rounds when first shift came in. They started doing some rounds and he was on the floor. He never pulled his call light and my daughter was devastated and took it very personally. Now I am happy that she cares so much about her residents and the level of care that she gets, but I am furious that ANY caregiver would be put in this position.

So back up two weeks ago when she spent all day at MEPS enlisting...she was in no shape to drive to work or work all night so we had her call out....she NEVER calls out. She called into the pager (as has been the procedure), but she was told that she did not call in properly.....but no notification of a new call in procedure. So she was told that there would be a corrective action. This will be 2 weeks ago tomorrow and she still has not seen a corrective action. So today she gets a call with a voicemail to come in at 4pm that it is urgent.

So DD is all worked up...what if I get fired? I did nothing wrong. I say look...you are giving your notice in 2-1/2 weeks. IF they decide that they want to make you the 'fall person' for their poor management....because God forbid they have to call someone in to cover for the girl that got fired....that means that someone would get O/T and they don't want anyone to get O/T then just stop her and politely say, "why don't I just go ahead and give you my resignation". There is no sense in her getting all worked up like this. I hope and pray that there are people like my daughter caring for my Grandmother. I mean they have one lady there that limps around and sits on the residents beds!!! Another lady that CANNOT speak English...to the tune that she did not even know what the word wheel chair was!!!! And this is just unacceptable!!! Okay I need to stop myself because I am getting myself all worked up. Anyway...we had her take her work shirts with her and put them in her car in case she resigns. DH said if we need to then we will help her out until she ships out as this is ridiculous.

Okay that is my rant...thanks for reading my vent.

Wow, I really hopes she reports this place for negligance and poor care/treatment of both workers and the needy. This is a serious, people needing the care and for the workers. It just boils my blood. Anway, glad you are doing the couch to 10, at first, I thought, what is she doing, a couch workout LOLOL I thought that for TWO days HAHAHA... Durrrr...

LOL!! Lizzy you just made me laugh. Thanks for your support. She resigned when she went in today. The 'new' HR lady said to her it is clear you are upset over what happened but we will need to suspend you pending an investigation. DD said that anyone that has ever been suspended got fired...so she told them "how bout I just resign right now". She said the lady was like if that is what you really want to do and DD said yep it is. I told her it is for the best...gives her 4 weeks to get back on sleeping at night and allows her time to finish her packing and studying her DEP book and getting in shape. It also allows us more time to spend together.

Sounds like she did the best possible thing for her. Its entirely too stressful for them to be letting the blame fall on her even for an investigation. If they can't manage to get things taken care of to prevent under staffing, then she doesn't need to have to work under them anyway.

Love the ranting! It's better to let it out than hold it in. As for your daughter.. She has done what needs to be done for her.. good for her standing up for herself and being firm.. Smart and strong young lady for being so young and voicing herself! Kudos.. She needs the rest anyway! Alot going on real soon! ;) (wink wink)

Rant any time... we certainly all have times we need to! Plus, what a healthy way to deal with the feelings compared to what I can do & eat them away instead!

Rant on, someone certainly needs to speak up I'd say. Some of these places are just beyond belief, I volunteer at one near us and I can see it going downhill right before my eyes. It's sad that you have to get old and not be cared for, imagine what it'll be like when we're old! So how did your couch workout go, get your head back into your needs, you gave your daughter great advice, she took it and now all is well, Jaime time! You hold me up and I'll grab you, ah it's so nice finding people like you when we think the whole world has gone mad at times.

So how did things turn out for your DD?

Thanks all! DD did resign yesterday. The lady said she could clearly see that she was upset over the incident but they would need to suspend her pending an investigation. Now I could understand if she was new or had other incidents...she has been there 18 months and has never had one incident. So my DD said, "why don't I just resign". So that is what she did. She was upset and said she did not want to have to resign like that but it will be for the best.

What a bunch of B.S. I hate that this was even an issue. And, I understand your rage.
