DairyFarmersWife's Journal, 25 February 2013

I'm not sure if I should count the recent drop to the new food scale that has become a huge hit with everyone in the house (yes.. even hubby is playing with it) or to my new girlfriend Jillian. I am eating differently. I haven't completely switched gears to go with a new diet but I am staying within her guidelines. She lets me have berries, yogurt, almond butter.. but no processed foods, little sugar, no high frutose, no sweetners.. that one I'm failing horribly on. STILL NO BODYMEDIA CALORIE COUNTER! Not that I'm getting impatient or anything.

I need to know when I can slurge. Baby's first birthday season is here. Apparently you're supposed to invite everyone you know to your child's 1st birthday? This saturday is one of hubbies old bowling buddies daughter's first b-day. Granted I see his wife at the bank all the time because she is a teller but other than that? We don't see them! Next is my brother in laws daughter's first birthday... the list goes on. These aren't family and friends at the house kinda parties either. They are renting out a location, having it catered... WHAT?!?! Am I missing something here? When did a babies first birthday become a giant event? Does this mean I have to have a giant event for little man? Granted.. his will be catered and have a cake brought in but that's just because his momma can't cook!
on diet Atkins

I wouldn't go overboard like others. He isn't going to remember it anyways. Just make it fun for you and your family and spend lots of time together. :)

The plan is to get some takeout from a local bbq place and the bakery that made our wedding cake is going to make a first birthday cake for me. Come to think of it.. the bbq place catered our wedding too. We're a predictable bunch. lol

Wow! My kids' first birthdays were not that extravagent at all. We had family only and their cakes were homemade. We didn't even feed people (other than the ones from out of town who were staying the night). I guess it depends on how big of a hoopla you want to make it. Great job on the losses! Keep up the good work!

OMG it is getting ridiculous it seems. Huge parties for every birthday, every kid in the family, communions, baptisms, baby showers, wedding showers... every dang weekend it's something else that we need to buy a gift for. Out of control!!! Invite who you want, don't go overboard just because everyone else is :) I like your idea better anyways!

I just saw that one of them is Heather's... I'm still laughing at that small worl thing lol. My kids parties under 5 were just family and maybe a couple of cousins thrown in. I don't get it. And then parties are only in elementary. Then it turns into a few friends to movies and lunch or something and sleep over at times. These huge ones aren't for me. Too many toys and too expensive lol! PS... I' have been waiting to hear from you missy....!

The birthday event is supposed to be for the child. At age one I highly doubt that he will care about the catered food or fancy venue. Putting myself into the shoes of a one year old I'd want to be in a place with people I know and fun things to do.

Buffy I love your view of things and you're absolutely right! I think I'm sticking to the whole bbq, cake, and family at the house. I'm not a huge get together girl anyways.

Thynes Not much went on over the weekend. You need to pick a day for us to go to lunch.
