I was able to get through day one without too much trouble. The hardest thing I am having trouble dealing with is my coffee consumption. I can't drink it without the sugar and milk in it, so I only had one mug instead of my normal 6 per day. Just a little addicted to the stuff so I need to reduce my intake over the next week or so. I need to succeed this time around so I will be taking this one day at a time.

Diet Calendar Entry for 24 February 2013:

Congrats to you for taking control. Just take it one day at a time and you'll do great. Like you, I have the coffee addiction but have found using table cream (18%), it's much lower in carbs than milk. Takes a couple days to get use to the taste but now I actually like it more than before. You can always use Splenda or Sugar Twin for the sweetness too. Atkins doesn't say to cut the caffeine like in previous versions of the program so there really isn't any need to change that part of your life style. The biggest trick to it all is to ensure you get enough water into you, lots and lots and lots of water to help flush out all the crap. Good luck, hope to see you join in the low carb daily check in. Where do I find the low carb daily check in? Or are you just talking about recording food on daily basis. I will be picking up some table cream and Splenda. I must keep my caffeine levels up or I might wither!! Could you tell me if there is a more accurate way to measure vegetable? In the morning I have been sautéing vegetables to go with my eggs. I use a measuring cup but they don't fit properly or should I be weighing them. I prefer spinach over romaine lettuce but again do I cram the measuring cup or weigh? A little confused with and want to make sure I am being accurate. Also, I have been reading other people say to make sure you get a lot of vegies. I thought you are only allowed 3 cups? Sorry for all the questions but if you can help that would be great.

Hey, questions are good, you wouldn't believe how many I had! Some have hard and fast answers while others seem to be debatable. I hadn't heard a 3 cup veggie rule and if that's so then I'm way off as I'm sure I eat far more than that. Take a look at my calendar to see the sorts of things I consume in a day, it might give you some ideas for meals. As for stuffing into a cup I'm not sure so I half stuff it, lol. I did go out just a couple of weeks ago and buy a scale, like you I just wasn't sure of portion or size, now I know and I had been underestimating an ounce so now get more, yea. If you go to Find a Group, you should be able to connect up with Low Carb Daily Check In. Many give tips, what work for them or just encouragement to the others. There is also a recipe thread with lots and lots of really good things other group members have tried, I like that your not just trying something blind when groceries are so expensive. Certainly don't want to take the time or waste the money on something that is yukky.... I think it'd be a big help to you and the others would love to have you participate, it's a really great group. There is also a thread for new comers, it has many of the answers your looking for. Looking forward to seeing you in there and if you have more questions feel free to send them along. If I can't answer them I can see if someone else would know as there are many that have made low carb eating their way of life and have been at it for a very long time, some of them years and years maintaining their weight at a desired number. We'll get there too, one pound and one day and sometimes one hour at a time. Good morning! The 3 cup rule comes from Atkins older book. He used to say for induction that was the daily limit. That was 3 cups of "salad" vegetables (there's a list in the book of what qualifies) or 2 cups "salad" vegetables and 1 cup of the other list of vegetables (higher carb, but not starchy, vegetables). That recommendation changed in later books telling the reader to eat much more vegetables per day. I think people were freaking out about the low amount of vegetables he originally called for so they changed it.

Thank you both for the info. The book I have lists the old 3 cup rule, which I have been following but find difficult to follow at times. On low activity days it is not that bad but when I am working I have been really hungry, if I can incorporate more vegies that would be great. Brenda, I was able to find Low Carb Daily Check In, I haven’t had a chance to check it out but looking forward to any info it provides. I do have more questions so you might see the odd message from time to time. It is great to have a place to go where people are going through and trying to accomplish the same thing that you are. One pound and one day at a time will be much easier with the support from people like you. Kirsty
