DairyFarmersWife's Journal, 20 February 2013

3 oz of chicken is WAAAAAAY smaller than it should be. The scale I got is a home smart but I think it's broken. Seriously? That can't be 3 ounces. That's more like.. 1 or 2. Why did I buy a scale? Now my calorie counter needs to arrive so I can eat more. You watch and I won't be burning nearly as many calories as I think I am. CRAP!!! The good news is it's a little eye opening. I should be out of the 150's soon when I pass out from shock and can no longer feed my pie hole.

The scale is just as tempting as I thought it would be. So far the 8 yr old has weighed anything and everything. We now know how much her ipod weighs, her bowl of cereal, a hair clip, the box of cereal... the scary part is she's on winter break and will be home with the scale. Last night she wanted to know what the weight limit was. Maybe I should have gotten a more expensive or durable scale. Maybe I should have gone to the farm supply store and gotten a scale from there. They should be durable. But then I'd have to chain it to the counter or hubby will take it out to the barn. Oh and.. you realize you live on a nut farm instead of a dairy farm when you find yourself yelling "Stop trying to weigh your nose on the kitchen scale!"

After eating my childs size portion of chicken which even my child looked at and said was too small... I tried to workout. I got Jillian Michaels extreme shed... I got half way through the warm up.. 3 TIMES! Wooohooo.. feel the burn. I thought that I could workout because hubby wouldn't be there to watch but it turns out working out with kids in the house is worse. Little man wanted to be held.. or he wanted to pants me. All I know is whenever I was moving he became a lil clingon. Maybe all the jiggly bits scared him. 8 yr old wanted to do everything so she couldn't be counted on to run interferance. When she did run interferance she was laughing uncontrollably falling on the floor. So... Yeah.... When I do get down to 130 it's going to be a miracle.

Love it..yes those scales are an eye opener..my DH and I was measuring the chicken also last night..it is surprising how little a piece of it can be..I made chicken tenders by cutting up the breast....I then take a baggy of flour and shake it up..that way I don't have as much flour on them as they are cooking..I also drain them on a paper towel before weighing..LOL about your girl trying to weigh her nose..thats too funny...but just think about the cals your burning while you little man is clinging to your leg..thats like having weights on your leg...Great job...:O)

Keep your protein up and you will stay full longer. Lots of lean meats and veggies is how you keep your plate full. You gotta love kids lol!

Scales are eye opening but you get used to it. No digital for me I got an old school one for 10 bucks and it's made it 2 years lol... not as fun for the kids. It's all about the lean meats so you can eat for and fillers like veggies and broths. I only go for 3 ounces when it's on top of a big salad. Other wise it's more like 5 wigh a streamed veggie and wasabi sauce or spicy mustard for the meat.

I need a scale, I know I'll have that eye opening experience too. I'm sure my scale would be broken in a week between the kids and the hubby trying to see how much they could weigh on it. Maybe the kids will get used to you doing a workout and just leave you alone because it won't be as fun to mess with you any more. My kids are older and hear me say I'm working out and leave me alone because I've told them if they mess with me while I'm doing it they have to finish the workout with me.

You can weigh out more than 3 oz of chicken too you know - There are not too many calories in each extra oz of chicken!

Just be thankful your kids aren't trying to weight a cow's tail! But seriously, those scales really open your eyes to just how much - or little - we're eating. I'm with you....I usually want WAY more than whatever amount I'm supposed to be eating.

You caught my eye with the 3 oz because that is what I weighed out last night for my big ass salad. I'm like Thynes - the only time I only eat 3 oz of meat is with my salad because it usually has nuts or avocado along with a boat load of veggies. Night time I am also on the 5 ounce - sometimes 6 (if it is really good). I like Bren's idea of getting all the water off PRE weighing. Your kids sound like so much fun with lots of love added in too.

Thank you for the comic relief of your journal! Picturing the "weigh off" going on at your house made me chuckle mightily. I get to battle my dogs when I work out - crunches with them on my chest really helps me feel "the burn". I have avoided the scale by using measuring cups. Very dismal when I realize just what a "serving size" truly is.
