I did well yesterday and stayed within normal RDI following a fast day; however, I did go a bit heavy on the bread which is probably not such a good idea.

Although I wasn't desperately hungry at breakfast following the fast, I noticed both yesterday and on Tuesday that I was hungry mid-morning. I waited till lunchtime and the hunger pangs passed (as they do, anyway), but it's interesting.

Diet Calendar Entry for 16 February 2013:
1342 kcal Fat: 51.46g | Prot: 54.84g | Carb: 170.33g.   Breakfast: granola, Plain Yogurt (Lowfat), banana, strawberries, sunfllower seeds, coffee, honey. Lunch: tapenade, sesame olive bread, olives, egg, feta cheese. Dinner: butter, shrimp, risotto, cherry tomato, olive oil. Snacks/Other: mini magnum. more...

I'm going to be very interested to see how this turns out for you...I think sometimes I've done this unintentionally. Makes me wonder if it's not something "normal" that we've just not paid attention to over the years.

Strangely enough, the book says that in our dim & distant ancestral past, we would have been used to periods of enforced fasting or very low calorie days when food was unavailable or not pentiful. That seems very reasonable to me. It goes on to say that when we're hungry our mental capacity is enhanced because we need to be able to catch or gather our next meal efficiently. Also, and the thing that I'm most interested in, when our bodies are not expending all their energy digesting food we immediately turn to repair and renewal so the rest from food gives the body a chance to recover. This all sounds so interesting and logical to me, and is backed up by blood & cholesterol counts from the authors - it's certainly worth a trial :)
