HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!

It is sunny and 53 degrees already today. In the words of Martha Stewart, "It's a good thing!" I am enjoying a nice cup of coffee, with some coconut oil added. It has so many wonderful health benefits and I have been neglecting to add it.

February is not generally a good month for me. Some bad things have happened in my life during the month, which makes it not one of my favorite months. On Valentine's Day, 1999, at 5 in the morning, the smoke detectors started screaming. I didn't hear them (yes, I do sleep that soundly, which is a scary thing at times), but, thank God, Dan did and he woke me saying the house was on fire. I rounded up the kiddos, told them to grab all the animals, and get out to the van, start it up and get the heat going. It was 12 degrees outside. They did exactly what we had practiced and talked about. They stayed calm and got out of the house. By this time I had discovered that the fire originated in the garage. I grabbed the fire extinguisher, but it was too far gone. The whole attic was on fire. Thank goodness we had a fire wall between the garage and the house. The fire department put the fire out, but the damage was pretty extensive. It took almost 4 months and over $100, 000 to put the house back to rights. For a long time, Valentine's Day led to nightmares about that fire. The fire department told me that if Dan hadn't heard the alarm and awakened me, we all would have been beyond saving in the next five minutes, due to the chemicals in the smoke. It really scared me. We now have smoke detectors in every single room in the house, and a heat sensor in the garage. They are hard wired with battery back up.

February 16th it will 25 years since we lost our daughter Jessica. I have journaled about this before, and have decided that I won't do that this year. She was my sunshine and I miss her. Enough said.

Last night we went to mom's after running our errands. She was a bit under the weather with a nasty headache, but I gave her some medication, fed her, and after a bit she said the headache has lessened. We finished the Rummy game from Saturday (I won) and played another (Dan won), then played 2 games of Yahtzee (mom won both). We got home about 9:45.

Food was good...exercise...meh...

Well, that's all the news that's fit to print from my corner...hope all is well in yours!

Have a great Valentine's Day, and remember to let the important people in your life that you love them!

TTFN!

~Stef~

Sometimes it is good to say less. My thoughts and prayers have been with you this month ... as always!! We had a house fire once too and I know exactly what you are talking about. Scared the bejebbers out of me. No one was hurt but the smoke damage was horrendous and it took a long time to repair what had been burnt. Ours started in the week hours of the morning in January. Mom heard what she thought was rain which of course doesn't happen in January around here. The whole back porch was in flames. Apparently the fire started in the outside wall, a wiring problem. She yelled FIRE!!! That's how we woke up and fortunately by the time the fire department responded our neighbors were already at the house and we had it basically put out. Still, sometimes when I drive home, I wonder if the house will still be standing. If mom hadn't heard the fire we would have been toast, and our two doggies. Anyway ... have a great day Stephanie ... may God's peace reign in your heart.

Such a scary story, can't even begin to imagine what that was like for you. Needless to say, I am thankful all survived & there is the blessing in that. Words can't describe the loss of Jessica. Life is short, live today for today with as much joy as you can.

Pam, this has been the easiest February for me since Jessie died. I miss her terribly though. I hope your month isn't too difficult. The coconut oil is so awesome. I do love it in my coffee...gives it an almost velvety texture. Have a great weekend!

Carol, yes it is...I have worked out the negative for the most part with blogs, journals, and here on FS. The deep pain is more a dull throb these days. A house fire is such a scary thing. Ours started with the cats knocking a fishing basket off a shelf onto the boat batteries. The metal basket landed on all four posts and they short circuited, melted, and caught fire, which caught the shelves on fire, and that led to the attic. It was HUGE!! Have a good weekend my sweet friend, and know that I love you! You are awesome!
